My AC compressor was locked up so I got a new compressor (for only $35 god I love ebay...) anyway I replaced the compressor and drier, purged the system, new oil etc... filled it with 2p of R134a. the compressor works, but the high pressure line gets hot and cold air does not come out... is the expansion valve bad? what's wrong lol (I'm in Florida want my AC back!) i'm confused

The valve/brass fitting inside the line that is right at the unit right where it feeds into the high pressure line is bad or clogged, meaning you need to purge and flush the whole system, because this means there is probably moisture in the lines. Then you need to re-install in a completely dry climate.

I do not know if is is called the expansion valve or not... sorry, I only know central AC for houses. But its all the same stuff when it comes down to the basic operations of the thing.

ya i know what u mean its hot as hell in florida!!! its been so humid this week!!!! i have a/c but only the #4 setting works!! so it blows out really hard. i have to shut it on and off so i wont freeze. i ordered the resistor so i can get 1,2,3 to work.

I did purge and flush the system after I installed the new compressor, was was very careful not to get anything into the system while I was working since I caped off the lines, then I sucked the thing for 20min before adding the r134a pressure is good and I don't have any leaks. might just take it to a shop whatever is wrong should not cost more then $100 and better then the $500 or so they would have charged me to replace the compressor

He said he just did that. Sheesh. An AC shop is a good idea. You might consider taking a look at the evaporator. If your previous compressor hard-locked, you may have flung crap into the high-pressure lines. If you plugged the evaporator, you'd get high press, but no flow/chilling.Take a look at the dryer also.Heck, both parts might be cheap enough from a recycler that it may be better to just replace them instead of paying for diagnosis.

NOTICE: I am NOT an AC expert. I am only suggesting things that have happened to me also.

If you have crap in the lines, you need to buy some nitrogen gas and clear the lines for a good 20 minutes till nothing comes out anymore
