Where can I find a J30 diff? I wouldnt mind the 3.917 gear ratio because i'm running slightly smaller tires and it would just even it out. Plus I'd like more top speed. The 3.6 or 3.7 whatever the Z turbo has is a bit excessive, but the 3.9 isnt bad at all. Where can I get one?

Nope.. There are several drivetrain differences. LSD, driveshaft, etc. The only really similar thing is the engine and the transmission. Otherwise they're pretty different dude. I've found S13 difs easier to find. So you're lucky anyway..

A local junk yard would be a good place to look.

I just installed a VLSD in my car from a 93' Coupe into my 1990 fastback. Now when i did the swap i used Nissan's Recomendation Gearoil of 85w-90. Now i forgot about that LSD aditive. People are tellin me im terribly killin my clutches in the Diff. Now i sure hope thats not true. But anyways i bought Quaker State 80w-90 Gearoil for LSD's and put 500ml of Lucus Gearoil Aditive.

I don't know im just lookin for some reasurance that i didnt kill my diff.

a VLSD is a viscious(sp?) limited slip differential. which means there are two disks that r attached to each axel inside the diffy and when moving normaly and no tire slippage these disks move at the same speed so there is no friction. once one tire looses traction one of the disks moves faster than the other creating friction. I believe the friction causes the oil in the diffy to expand, forcing the disks to move together and lock together. so when they r locked together both tires move at the same speed rather than one tire continuing to loose more traction.

Some diff's have a helicoil type cartridge that has a spring in side it and some diff’s use a viscious type cartridge that is a sealed unit and does not require LSD fluid.

someone mentioned using 300zx axles with the 300zx rear end, wont work, the axles are physically too long, u need to get either pre95 j30 axles with the 5 bolt flanges or 240sx vlsd or 95+ j30 output shafts with the 6 bolt flange to mate with ur axles, or there is an option three, machining the open diff shafts, this one i dont have much info on

i picked up a 300zx vlsd the other week for 34 bux (ah, love that yard) ...grabbing j30 6 bolt output shafts this week for 100, bout 150 for a vlsd..not bad...

There is so much info on this topic it almost has a negative effect for me. It is making my head spin with all of the damn info. So if someone could give me a clear-cut answer to my problem then I'd really appreciate it.

I have a 90 S13 w/o ABS or HICAS. When I'm looking for an lsd I can pick one up from the J30 95+ or find an S13 with the lsd that doesn't have abs or hicas? This welded rear end I had made for my car is starting to wear thin on me because it sucks *** as low speeds. Any help is appreciated.

Try serching for ANY year S13 WITH ABS and you will have the LSD. Be nosy and when you find it look at it before you buy it and look for the orange sticker.

Hey Technoman I also recently bought a VLSD out of a 95 240sx. I Hear that when mounting it in a S13 you need to get longer front mounting bolts. I went to the dealer and bought two front mounting Bushings, Bolts, washers, and the rubber stoppers that go on top. Will all of these parts make it mount flush on to my S13? Because i read somewhere about the shorter S13 bolts pulling the rubber bushings out and the diff. might fall. If anyone else has any advice on intstalling a S14 diff into a S13 pleas help!!Thanks!!!

I think you will need hardware for the s13 body but the 95 R200V you have will work in your car.

yes. It slides all over the place in rain, and if I step on it one tire will spin, wile other just stay there. One more thing, I have no ABS.
