I have a 92' 240sx with 300K+ miles. Body is in great shape and still runs pretty good. My brother\myself are the original owners. However, it's starting to show it's age. Is it worth investing the $ and time to restore/fix-up? Just recently found out the popularity of the 240's? (Geeez, y'all have your own convention) Stupid question but is the 240sx considered a classic? Should I hold on to my 240 or sell?

it's not old enough to be considered a "classic". Heck, some old 70s toyotas are only considered classics within certain circles. That's the nature of the import scene.

As for fixing it up, why not? 300k on the odometer and it looks good? Why would you want to get rid of it? Not many people can claim their odos read that high. You could slap a new engine in it, or you could rebuild the current one.

Only you can answer that question... if your car doesn't interest you, it doesn't matter what someone else thinks it is worth, you'll regret the money you spend.

Im sure the majority of the replies you'll get here will be to keep it, for obvious reasons. You do what you want, if its not your primary car, and you have the time and money, Id go for it...

Should be pretty cheap to fix. Used KA24'd can be had cheaply in Cali due to so many folks dropping SR' in their 240's.

Even tho i am sure that craze is abating as CA DOT has decided to enforece EPA regs that forbid such swaps ( nearly all otehr states dont I had no prblem passing inspection in KY with ym SR).

If its not a classic its a bit of a cult car in the sense thats is highly appreciated by those who own it.

Kina like a SuperBeetle is a bit of a special car or an early Q45.

Fred...:)

Whew, anyway, even though it will almost certainly cost you some chunk o' change in the near future, I think you should hold on to it.

1. 300K miles is a lot of miles, and while the engine and chassis may still be strong, you'll have a hard time getting more than 500-1000 bucks for it if you want to sell.

2. You've held on to it this long, and clearly it's been good to you. Why ditch it to get another car that may not prove so reliable?

3. Rebuild/replacement options are all pretty affordable and entirely realistic. Even if you built the car over again from the ground up, it would still be cheaper than buying a new car.

4. It's a 240sx.

But if you DO want to sell, let me know. I assure you that I can find a happy and loving home for it if need be. :D EDIT: Seriously. Let me know if you want to sell.

All of you are correct... What was I thinking. If anything car has a lot of sentimental value. Learned to drive stick on it, met the wife with it, got my first speeding ticket in it. Maybe someday my 2 year old boy will be thanking me for holding on to it.

BTW: 72 degrees in San Diego, partly cloudy, women dressed for the summer ... what else can I ask for. :D
