240sx how do I tell if I have a limited slip or open differential?

ok guys got a ?? about my rear end how can i tell if its the stocker or a limited slip? just got this car and the kid i got it from said somthing was done to it but didnt know.

jack up the rear of the car and spin one of the tires by hand, if both wheels spin in the same direction it has a lsd, if not youve got a open diff.

But if it was me, go into an empty parking lot, turn the wheel, floor it, count the stripes.

do a burnout, if you only have one tire mark then no lsd.

this has been discussed countless times. if all else fails, look for a orange sticker on the pumpkin "VLSD"

i did search with no results. any way i got another ?? if i try and burn out and nutin happens do i need to replace the clucth??

You mean you tried to do a burn out and your tires didn't spin? Did you have the Ebrake on lol?

did u notice a funny smell after you tried this?? when your clutch is burning up you will smell it.

did you dump the clutch with the revs up? after doing that, give it full throttle, then stand on the brake. instant burnout. the power going to the rear wheels will overpower the rear brakes while the fronts lock, and you will stand still while peeling the rears out. ease off the brake while still burning out, then stop 10 feet away. if you did a one wheel peel, you have an open diff.

yeah i did smell a little nasty .. the guy i just bought it from swears to me that the clutch has 600 miles on it??? but he did get at autozone..i think he just pushed it to hard
