I have a 92 240SX that does not get hot air into the vehicle for defrosting the windshield or for heating up passengers and its getting cold outside

The push buttons all work so I can get full air to the defroster vents yet no heat

There is a cable off the back of the HVAC control that I can slide in or out yet this makes no difference

Is the flow of hot coolant into the heater core controlled by an electric solenoid or is the cable supposed to open/close some sorta valve

Any help appreciated

Thanks

I believe its just a valve controlled by a cable. I would check the thermostat first. If after replacing the thermostat and you still don't get heat, you could have a clogged heater core if your coolant has not been changed on a regular basis.

i agree with it being a clog. if u just flush your system really well it should take care of the prob. a friend of mine was having the same issue and doing so took care of it
