Hi all, I've been a longtime lurker and now after numerous threads and failed attempts at fixing my headlights, I turn to the members for help. The headlights are able to go up by either pressing the headlight push button switch on the dash or by switching the headlight switch "ON" on the stalk. They do not go down unless you manually turn the headlight motors OR if I jump terminal 3 and 5 in the headlight relay #3. Here's a list of what I've done.
1) check all fuses
2)check all relays (1 next to battery and 3 next to airbox; also replaced these)
3)took apart both headlight motors and tested individually
4)check headlight switch on dash (replaced it with used switch from low mileage car from junkyard)
5)cleaned out multifunction/turn signal switch
6)check headlight timer (opened and checked for burnt circuit board, ohm tested pathways; also replaced it with used timer from low mileage car from junkyard)

At this point I dont know what else to look at. Am I missing something? Should the timer or headlight switch on the dash send signal to the headlights to tell them to go down? I read in another thread to check a plug in the center console? What is this plug? Thanks for any pointers all! :mike

I've already read the headlight tutorial and came up with nothing ;[ Like I said, they go up fine by pressing the headlight button or switching the headlights on thru the stalk BUT they only go down by jumping terminal 3 and 5 in the #3 relay. Help? Anyone?

in the relay box on the passenger side of the engine, there is 1 fusible link for the headlight control IRRC.
that's the only other thing i can think of that might be it. :frown:
maybe you could try a known-good headlight timer. (new or from a buddy with working pop ups)

There is also a diode type thing behind the stereo that goes bad that is for your headlight motors. I've also heard of the alternator fixing this issue (magic alternator! Idk). Also bad grounds.
