Here's an option for installing a CD changer in the HB.

I wanted to be able to "properly" raise the carpet panel in order to get to the spare tire, so I didn't want to just attach the changer to the floor.

I was still toying with where to place it when I decided to replace the broken power antenna with a "universal" power antenna.

On a side note: I knew I could just swap out the mast, but it cost more than the new universal and I thought it would be a good idea to replace the 15 year old motor while I was at it. However, the $50.00 universal sucked, so I returned it and spent $65.00 on a replacement mast, but at least it works now.

Back to the changer, I don't think I would've seriously considered this location if I hadn't had to pull the panel to get to the power antenna mounting bolts.

So anyway, here's the pictorial installation!

Remove the LR speaker grill, then the plastic panel around the speaker, and then the LR moulded panel.

Position your changer and mark location for holes.

You could use sheet metal screws, but I went with pan head screws with flat and lock washers and nuts. I felt that would be stronger and the back was accessable anyway.

Next is the really hard part. I started with a small hole and just started working out further and further checking it often.

Then I trimmed it out with some door edging I found at a paint/body supply store.

Check for fit.....some more

Reinstall panels.

And here's the finished product.

Hope this is useful.

lol I'll chime in..

Looks good, -almost- factory. But mounted like that, doesn't it vibrate excessively as opposed to being mounted vertically onto the hatch floor?

I've got mine mounted at about the same area... basically it's in that far corner but bolted to the floor. It's as close to the edge of the carpet.. either I slotted or cut it--I forget.

Just prayed I wouldn't hit anything when I was drilling.. ahhahaha

It's kinda overkill now, as my headunit didn't support mp3s then, but now it does. 6+1 cds of mp3s anyone?

I haven't had the car on the road since the install. Not expecting any prob's though....I mounted this same unit in a similar position in a different car and it was fine.

In addition to getting the car back on the road (an ECU wiring prob I just traced down today), I'm installing a pair of 5x7's in the factory location of the front doors. I'll post pics of that install once it's complete.

Thanks for the feedback!!!
