Hey everyone, im new here. I currently own a 240sx with a sr20det swap with a few other mods. My friend has a 400+ awhp volvo s60r. He recently got into an accident and is willing to give me the engine if i want it. Would this work in my 240sx? If not what would i have to do to make it work? Thanks for any help you can provide.

"awhp" is the first and most likely not the only problem I see.

this is probably the worst advice ever. how do you think people learn? they do things that they dont know how to and make lots of mistakes. Why not tell him why it doesnt work? or if its impossible

why dont you explain why awhp would be a problem?

Well I was just quoting what OP said. At this point we can call it AWD

its the BEST advice evar, even if i sat here and listed everything it takes you think that would help op put it in his car? no. if he wants to learn, then look at what the basics are for an engine swap. my post was a hell of alot more useful than yours. mine at least was on subject.

oh im sorry, you are soo right. how could i be so dumb. op, you can sooooo do this swap. yadda yadda yadda.

if you know how to do an engine swap, you should know whats needed. noones ever done this swap, so it OBVIOUSLY requires everything to be custom done. if op cant figure out whats needed, then odds are they will never be able to do it. how bout YOU tell him what it needs. since your so worried about it.

transverse orientation should be indication numero uno as to why this would be a bad idea.

fix't and agreed.

Sorry OP this might seem harsh, but dont bother with that engine.Listing why not, would take up more unnecessary time than just saying leave it be.

Im sure with enough engineering prowess you could actually make the engine work, but really....it aint worth it, just get urself a CA18DErT put a Mini Cooper Supercharger on it and a massive T7+ turbo and call it a day.

this isnt a headgasket job though. HUGE difference. he wants to know how to put an awd transverse mounted volvo engine in his 240........ guess im just quicker than most. did my first headgasket YEARS ago without having to ask. i grabbed an fsm and got to work.

I do realize this is out of my league by a long shot, im pretty new to all of this. but thats why i came here, i have read many very helpful forums on this site. My friend owns a nissan performance shop so i figured he could help me with this swap if it were possible at all, but i thought i would run it by you guys first just to see the different oppinions on it.

If there is a RWD trans that can be used with it and you can fabricate mounts, parts, and wired it then yeah, it can be done.

Can you guess the difference between the two us, when using nonexistent words?

Nay, i only fix things that irritate me.

i.e Your and You're, Leauge and league, necessary and neseccary and a number of other words that just look ugly when misspelt or used incorrectly.

Everything else i just let slide, i stopped being a grammar/spelling nazi cuz i got told off some time back for trying to hard.....Dattebayo Mr Meanie

Besides WHY this Engine?? We work on the volvo 5-cylinder all the time, If is doesn't leak oil from every orfis then its not a volvo, then they ALL start blast oil as 'blow-by" from the dip-stick tube.

If you want some thing "bad a**" the nissan family of engines has plenty to offer....

I was only thinking about this engine because i would be getting it for free. thats pretty much the only reason. It was just an interesting potential idea. i do like a lot of the nissan engines (including the sr20 i already have) so if this engine really is that pointless i prob will do what everyone seems to be saying, sell the b**** and either buy a different nissan engine or put the money into performance parts

I am undecisive about building my SR (pistons, rods, balance crank, turbo, cams......) which will run me $4-5K just in parts, or just go and get a vq35 and call it the day, decisions decisions..

I've got your back, Jeff!

CAN I HAZ MOAR GRAMMMMAR NAZI PLEEEEZE??!!!???

I KID! I KID!

Now, to contribute to the thread:

Don't even bother with the Volvo motor. It is more of a headache than what it is worth, IMO. Take advantage of the SR20 that you already have and build it.

no one done it but you could always be the first

you gonna need alot of stuff if you want to make it work

1. custom mounts 2. transmission adaptor if it doesnt have a rwd transmission that fits3. wiring4. relocation of any thing on the side with the tranny5. custom driveshaft

is like the h22 swap into a 240sx the guy had to relocate the disbutor to the other side of the head.... i dont kow the detail but i saw pic of it, its crazy

I guess this is a dead thread but kool idea

Like the one dude said transverse is the first clue that it would be hard. But possible. It would take skills at machine work and fabrication. if you can't do that then the amount you would spend in those two things would make it cheaper to swap a fully built RB26. Not to mention ECU and wires.

Mostly outsourced could easily put you into 20k territory no kiddin 50/hr (which is low avg) adds up quick.

Furthermore if you are capible of all that you would just be doing it for fun and you wouldn't be asking on Nico I don't think.

I'd love to see something like that. But fact is I thought about doing a BMW swap and found out JDM Nissan swaps are just cheap. Some of the best bang for buck. The amount I would have spent just caming and tunning the BMW would have been the cost of an SR not to mention the fact that BMW engine would probably cost same or more to start out. And I still might do it someday since BMWs are supremely light they look cool and I've only seen it done twice neither were the engine I had in mind and both in Europe.

+1 to those that say sell it and building what you've got. Built SR20s can provide plenty of power to have more than enough fun. I'd get a hold of an FSM, buy forged internals and go to work from there

Best of luck in whatever you decide.
