Newbie Needin Advice, So my teenager has a 1990 240sx which he decided to drift into the school awning needles to say he wiped everything underneath the car including the engine cradle. Instead of buying all the parts he decides to buy a 1992 240sx with a very good body but no engine or transmission...seems easy enough right, pull engine out of 1990 and put it all into the 92.......WRONG we later found out that the 92 original engine was a dual overhead cam engine and the wiring harness is totally different (I expected some differences) so we take the harness from the 90 and put it in the 92 till we came to the CHECK CONNECTOR right above the computer. They are very similar but not the same at all, does anyone know if there is an ADAPTER WIRE HARNESS TO CONNECT THE TWO CONNECTORS without me having to figure out all the wires and cut the 2 connectors??? (to all you who like swapping the other way SINGLE TO A DOUBLE, ME TOO WISH WE COULD)
Thanks,
wgodwin

Welcome aboard!

First off, glad your 'aspiring drifter' is ok. Get him in here to do some of his own research. :)

There are a few articles on www.240sxtech.com regarding swapping a DOHC into a SOHC car, so those should help you (keeping in mind you'll be reversing everything). The differences between the two engines aren't terribly substantial, so it shouldn't be a huge project.

p.s. I'm thinking you may also want to consider switching the ECU from the 90 and throw it in the 92.

AZhitman.....Thanks, me too, I am a school teacher and it would have been embarrassing to have my 'aspiring drifter' hit a school where he attended and where we live. Ha Ha!!
I switched the ECU and have read the article you referred to. I only found an article of a swap from SOHC to a DOHC but the principal used in that article should be the same but reversed, I will be trying it this weekend and get back with you on the results. The car lives and runs but no cluster activity. I am hoping it works.

Till next week....Later

Just buy a dual cam. You can find a complete dual cam/trans with all accessories for $300-400..
