Hi, i was wondering if it is possible to change the u-joint in the driveshaft without changing the whole shaft. How would i tell if the u-joint is no good?

Also how would i tell if the sprilg isolator is bad?

Thanks

it's possible to change just a u-joint on most cars. You however, cannot do it with the driveshaft in the car - it must be removed. You have to use a press to press out the old and in the new. Make sure you grease the stuff that needs greased and don't loose the e-clips or covers. here's a quick generic how-to - http://autorepair.about.com/cs...a.htm

That being said, to test a u-joint, you pull the drive shaft, and then rotate the joints through their entire range. if you hit a rough spot or any snappy spots, or there is any play, the joint is bad. the how to goes through a bit of this.
