hi ima noobie at this site and to most nissans. recently i have helped out finishing a project car, a DSM. now im starting a new project and wanted to convert a 240sx to a skyline. since you guys know most about the 240sx can you guys recommend me which year s14 (95,96,96,97, or 98) or s13 of 240sx(s) would turn out to "look" most like a skyline (r33)? i know converting into a r34 is out of the question so i was planing to go for the r33 look. mechanical wise, if i replaced the 240sx engine, turbine and drivetrain with a r33 engine, turbine and drivetrain, will the 240sx preform almost or just as a r33? thanks guys

Don't be so negative, maybe he doesn't 40k+ to blow on one.

To make it easier on yourself and save you more money, the RB25 would be the engine of choice (rwd, 2.5L turbo engine).

Oh and as for you wanting the look, the S14 would look better w/ that kind of body work imo. Not my cup of tea though.

If you got the money, by all means go for it.

A quick search got me this...zerothread?id=105676

Oh, heres a search button at the top

No, it will not. Suspension and chassis is so completely different and will not handle anywhere close without seriously expensive modification.

I've driven both.

240 > Skyline in handling department.

Skyline is just a heavy overgrown 240

Hmm, i guess its an opinion thing.

Ive driven an R32 and it seemed more like a straght line car. It also did not handle the same at all in my opinion.

Wow if the conversion is possible wouldnt the car preform as or close to a r33 yet handle better than the real thing. wouldn't it basically be "upgrading"/improving a skyline r33 with the 240 handeling on a RB25 engine. By the way do any of you guys know where/how much (both engine andshipping) i could get a RB25 engine? i sorta sometimes see it on ebay but i dont really trust the people behind the transactions..... (sorry for this is newb question.......Is the RB25 engine the same as the engine behind the R33 GTS or GTR?) Thanks you so much for helping me out

I would be intresting to see if it could be done so that it looks close to the real thing, but the cost would likley be close to actually buying the real thing. Plus no matter how many conversions you do its still a 240sx, I wouldn't even do a silvia conversion on my car because its not a silvia..........but im weird and finicky

gtrs with some jared subway diet feels so good. turns like butter and accelerates so smooth. sr's dont feel as good to me though. it doesnt pull until the upper rpms. still pretty fast but its a sudden surge of power not smooth.

just stitch weld the 240, foam the chassis up, and dump a roll cage in there itll feel good.

even just replacing everything thats broken/blown/worn, tension rods, tie rods inner outer, new struts and it will run like a champ.

all the conversions i've seen looks sloppy "non oem" looking. i think the s14 looks more like the 33 and the s13 looks more like the 32 though.

if you dump the awd atessa transmission for the crappy rb25 transmission you'll lose a lot of power through the drivetrain. make sure you have the money before even thinking too far. heres a list of stuff you might need

1 the car maybe 1k-8k?2 an rb26dett swapped in there anywhere from 10-15k+3 sick cutting/welding +gtr lights/body panels not sure how much4 of course youre going to want to paint it, lower it, +get new wheels since its going to be a drag queen. figure out how much thatll cost +other mods. almost as much as importing one over you decide if you want to do it and where you're gonna get that cash.

if its gonna cost about the same. hell if its within like 5grand. just get a skyline. Sorry bt i would rahter have a skyline than a skyline lookin 240sx. plus you would beable to get your money out of a skyline. you would never get your money out of the 240sx.

yah i guessed i sorta prepared for all of this...*sigh* then again gettign a a r33 from motorex is about 30-40k and if i just convert my s14 (yah it will still be a s14 but in a way its like 2 cars in one ) it about 12-20k. errr why so cheap cause i plan to stick with the RB25 since its about 3k not includding shipping (probaly another thousand) this may seem wrong (please correct me if you find this format very newbie and not OEM feel).

1. Found some s14(s) 1995-1997 about $3-9k

2. An rb25det front clip with engine, transmissin, the essentials for about $4-5k (shipping included)

3. A "Areo_Designs" R33 body kit $300

4. Orginal jdm r33 head lights and tailights w/centerpiece. gt-r etc decals, JDM r33 Grill ( ). $400-500

5. Jdm rb25 turbo manifold kit $800

6. Springs for lowering $100-150

7. Wheels $200-300

8. paint $300 .

9. time spent on the "transformation" ....priceless and fustration!

All together about 17k +- where i get it and shipping. (almost half of what it cost to bring over a real one) Cash on the other hand will slowly come by i guess, try to sell "some" of the stock parts i guess (i know people out there that want some of the stock parts, Craigslist :evil haha ) and long OTs or aleast i try to save up.

this is a way were i can get a supposudly cheap skyline. buy it myself froma dealer in japan and when it comes to america i can make the car "display only" and rarely drive (fear from being caught). but the, cost insurance, paperwork and time (it would be cheaper then Motorex) would be about almos tot the conversion, maybe a bit more.
