240SX Convertible When It's Cold

Hello, all. New here, quickie introduction: I have a 1993 240SX SE Convertible and I live in Michigan. This is going to be the first winter for me and the car and I want to see how long I can drive it with the top down.

The manual warns me not to lower or raise the roof if the temperature is below 41F, or I may damage the assembly. I'm not going to sue anybody if I break my roof, but I want to know what the realistic danger is when I try to lower the roof and it's 33F out. Anyone has any thoughts?

Not sure of the mechanical danger but the physical danger is that you'd freeze your balls off. Why go top down in that weather?

I would imagine the canvas could crack then it will cost about $1k for a new one installed.

Are there any fluids (oils or something) used in the convertable mechanism? perhaps if it is cold they could freeze.

I have seen bad damage to vert tops by people who just didn't take care of them when putting up and down.I would sugest that you go by what the manual says.45F is Very cold when your going 55mph.

Why would they make a hardtop for a car that only 3,000 of them were made?

and i've seen tons of em around here, i cant believe only 3k of em were made
