first i'd like to say that i miss my car so much. i blew the head gasket about 5 months ago and was gonna do the swap but bills are stacking up so i figured maybe i should replace the head gasket. i need some help though. do you think its still good to do it since the coolant and oil have been mixed so long? if not then where can i get a head gasket and do you have any tips on putting it on? what part numbers are the parts? i still want to do the swap, but it seems like it will be a year until i save up enough money and i really miss my car (5 months its just been sitting there) my mom thinks i'm crazy because i still vacuum it and wash it and sit in it.

ps.if you know a good place i can get a cheap sr20det, ca18det or rb20det please let me know. clips would be nice :)

thanksjon

yeah, you should probably be alright. You will know for sure when you pull the head and look down at the cylinder walls. If they are extremely rusted, you might want to reconsider. As far as replacing the head I would definetely do it. A machine shop will get you a gasket kit, check the head for flattness and cranks, and take care of both of those problems all for about $150. To me that is definetley worth the effort of fixing it.

edit: usually there is enough oil mixed with the coolant to prevent rust on the cylinder walls and bearings.

thanks for your help. if you could, could you give me a few steps on what i should do first in order to change the head gasket? part numbers would be nice too if you know them. again thanks for you advice.

ps. my car is in great condition. i bought the car for $2300 and it has 126k miles on it. the gasket blowing was my fault because i knew the water pump was leaking but i didn't change it in time. only problems when i bought it was a small dent and a bent control arm. i think the clutch may go out soon too. but i still think i got a pretty good deal on it.

I have a 95 240SX (automatic) and just had the head worked on. It was $35-45 to have it pressure tested at a machine shop. The 4 cyclinders were leaking so the repair & gasket set was $548. The gasket set was $120. They can be purchased at Autozone etc all of them said they would have to order it in. The machine shop got them because they needed them to do the head work. (At least that was what it cost me in AZ) Good luck!
