Hello, I am looking to get a 95-97 240sx..I am going to first upgrade the suspension and brakes,,,then convert the front and back and sides to a Silvia...and finally do the SR20DET engine swap..my question is..I live in Canada, Ontario, Toronto to be specific.,,I will be driving this car in the winter,,,I ahve been told that I am dumb adn will never be able to drive it...I am jsut talking about obeying the speed limit and normal driving..I can undersand taking an on ramp @ 140 kmph and spinning out..but ccmon is the 240 really that bad in the winter?? any input please!!

dunno but i'm about to find out real soon....cant be worse than my integra!!! but its no suburban.as long as the roads are well maintained of which i'm sure they are just as well maintained if not better than our northern states. All they do in MD is dump a bunch of salt down, what a waste of money, SAND is the way to go salt melts the snow as well as itself leaving you with a bunch of ice

keep the suspension on the softest settings get snow tires and know the car very well. also drive carefully and at the low points of the tourqe band. ie. 1(or 2) gear(s) up from normal.

Its a rwd car, so drive accordingly. They do not respond the same as fwd.

My 240sx was bought primarily for winter duties, and I live in Northern Alberta, gets VERY cold here, and very icey.

The 240 has responded very well to its initial tour of duty last winter, just make sure you got winter tires and not crappy seasons.

Anybody who tells you differently, they should stick to fwd econoboxes and maybe bring their mommy and daddy along with them when they venture out into the snow. Even when I had my 4x4 Explorer is was in 2wd 95% of the time. 4x4 only came on when I went exploring skidoo trails :D

So yes your 240 is fine, pay attention to your driving, and if your used to fwd in the winter I suggest first snow fall go to a large parking lot with snow and practice manuveuring (sp?)

I actually prefer the characteristics of a rwd in the winter over a fwd.

good luck :)

240SX + Falken Azenis Sports + Tein HAs + Ice = Don't bother... just pull over cause your not going ANYWHERE!

No matter what I did... doing 3 mph in 2nd gear w/ partial throttle even slipping the clutch I couldn't even manage to get up to 5-7 mph.

Granted it's all due to my tires but made it an interesting night when I had to walk about 12 miles home.

You shouldnt worry to much about it. I Live in Thunder Bay and we get tonnes of snow. I have a 1989 240 w/o LSD and i make it around just fine. When starting out from a stop throw her in 2nd gear and you'll go. When your driving around just try and keep your RPM's down as much as possible. Thats how you will slip if you apply to much torque to the wheels. I think you'll have lots of fun with it.

Nismo_Freak: man I know what you're talking about. Z-rated tires on my TA when I had to bring her to a spot for an amp install, it wasn't even that snowy out but typical winter day....those tires made it a white knuckling experience.

I drove my car all last winter in maine. I have no LSD, but a nice set of nokian snow tires. IT worked out very well. I actually ended up going for a cruze every snow storm. You just have to concentrate, and think ahead. It takes a little more effort to drive then your yuppie neighbors awd volvo. But still good fun.
