Hi, I am a 17 year old that has finally decided on a 240sx witha SR20DET. I am completely new and am a complete novice when it comes to anything about cars so please don't insult me or put me down. I am not planning to race at all, just cruise around and perhaps go a little faster when need be. I have a few questions.

I'd like to know which SR20's go with which 240's.For example the red top or black top with 89-90 S13, 91-94 S13, and the 95-98 S14s.Also, I'd like to know to do a full conversion, whether it be a S13, or S14...what needs to be swapped? Engine, Body kit?And one last question. I live in NYC and since I don't know much about cars, I don't have any mechanic friends. Can anyone recommend one who is very professional and reasonably priced to do the swap? I'd prefer an enthusiast over a regular mechanic. Thanks for your time guys.

My suggestion would be to first find a good 240SX. If you find a car and have questions, feel free to ask. You can probably find someone here who can run a Carfax report for you too.

I wouldn't worry about the SR swap right away. Get the car, fix anything that needs it (any wear items or just plain broken stuff) and just get used to driving the car.

200+ horsepower RWD car probably isn't the best idea for a first car. Get used to the more modest stock 240SX and then think about the swap.

I believe Heavy Throttle is in NY state, but I'm not sure if they're doing installs anymore. They may just be selling motors and parts. They're a professional shop and are very reputable. They're active in the Nissan community and are definitely what I'd call "enthusiasts".

Anyway, find a good 240SX, learn to love it in its stock form, read everything you can here at NICO and anywhere else, and then start planning your swap.

For what it's worth, that's my 27,000 Turkish Lira.

not tryin to be mean, but if you know very little about cars maybe gettin a sr powered 240 isn't for you

your still young, you obviuosly have a lot of learning to do, scour these forums, look through old threads, and read up as much as you can before you start to seriously consider a swap, aside from what those magazins say, this is not an easy task,

save and hold on to your money for now, don't worry there isn't going to be a shortage of sr's anytime soon

get a 240, drive it, learn what rwd is like, learn how to habdle/control it, and after start to seriously consider doing a swap,

maybe for now you could work on the suspension of the car, get strut bars, shocks, an lsd etc. etc.

and to answer you questions, the engines will all fit into the cars, all that is required is some more modifications, which will mean more money,to keep it simple get a de s13 and swap in a redtop, or get a s14 and swap in a blacktop, of course since u wont be doing the swap you could put a blacktop into a s13 but you will have to find a mechanic who knows what he is doin

i'm not quite sure what your question is about the bodykits

and everything you need to know is answered by that button on the top right of your screen that says search

good luck and welcome to nico

Umm...the S13 and S14 sr20 is a direct drop in from what I understand (<--doesn't care, is going KA-T). The S15 SR20 is what will give you problems. Oh and on all of them you'll be doing wiring...have fun.

you dont know anything about cars, and you live in NYC...Get a different car. Something thats newer and reliable. Whether its a SC300 or a 2001 WRX...It will about the same or a little more than a S14 with SR.

lol yeah I don't reccomend a car with an engine you'd have to wait a couple of weeks to a month to get parts for in NY. But all to their own. If you do get a 240SX with a SR, I suggest you invest in a decent beater to get you around while you work on it.

I'm not saying that because he doesn't know anything. I'm saying it just in case something breaks he won't be out of a car for more than a few days.

if you find a nice 240sx buy it and drive it a lot before you decide to bust 5 grand on a swap. Yeah, thats what an SR swap done right will cost you. Also consider the fact that its a JDM Motor, theres not the same parts and service support as a USDM engine. I dont recommend buying a junked or non running 240sx and just swapping it, and that being your first car. Learn on the KA24 engine, take it easy when it rains, snows, looks dusty on the road, anything like that. Learn what situations make the rear end break traction, and how to stay in control if it does happen.

And read this forum, search it, theres a lot of good info here.

i've been told that for the s14 blacktop to s13 you have to do some more work, i think it was the driveshaf that neesd to be slightly modified

and this is from a very experienced mechaninc

i could be wrong though

If you dont know anything about cars and you get an SR and it breaks down you may have a very difficult time finding a mechanic to work on that engine being that it is not shipped or produced here.
