i need to change my STOCK air filter considering its black!. so i was wondering if a aftermarket air filter is worth buying for ~50( i know they claim to have better horse pwer, more acceleration, better filtering ) or should i just get a normal cheap paper thing? i have a stock air box and i don't care to spend money on an air induction kit because if i motor swap later on it would have been money wasted. its like 200 bucks for a good name CAI so i want to save that money for something eles, like a bushing kit or something. well any feed back is welcome.

lol 200? Seriously go on ebay right now. Like 30 bucks gets you a chrome intake and filter. Why buy a name brand cai when a ebay knockoff does the EXACT same thing. :/

Don't waste money. and don't buy a stock air filter.

what ive herd from those ebay things are that the piping is essentially the same as BRAND items. the difference in price is the difference is quality of the air filter. i believe ive seen an ebay filter fall apart like soggy cheese. but still if you go that route and buy a ebay cai and a brand filter is still alot and you dont really get much performace other than a sound to match your exhaust note. maybe i need to google this..

Just buy a purolator filter from advance. They flow well enough for a stock engine, and are good for 30K miles. When you make real power then get a good CAI/filter.

I HATE K&N. At least their oil type filters. Because with our cars that oil will gather on the maf and give you alot of driveability problems.

When I first started driving my rb20, it was great, hours later it was acting like it was being chocked off. I cleaned the maf and it was fine again.

I have a AEM dryflow filter now because it was the easiest filter to use on my strange 6in adapter.

I bought a K&N replacement filter and I really don't think its worth it. I didn't notice anything different. They say it saves you money because you never have to replace it, but you still have to buy the filter cleaning/oiling kits. So it doesn't make too much sense to me. My recommendation for a filter is a WIX OEM replacement. I have nothing bu good things to say about any WIX product. But any OEM replacement filter will be fine as long as its not a FRAM.

Imo, cone filters are silly unless matted on a CAI.

other rise,

1. I don't think they look "cool"2. They get dirty faster3. Power gains are little to nothing. -it's just pulling in hot e-bay air.

maybe it's just me.

thats what ive been thinking. ive had a CAI in a altima with a ka24de and it didnt feel special enough. maybe only good with a higher hp...

ill ive decided im going with an APEXI drop in! heck its only $35. i googled it and its supposed to be good, so we will see

i run a K&N drop in on a SC300 and it seems to help a little (seems a little more crisp now) And it has helped with gas mileage a little.

but either way, intake's on a stock N/a 4banger really doesn't do much.

so i dropped in the apexi power filter and its feels like it CAN BREATH:bowdown ...lol...don't know if its running better because of the new Apexi filter or because the frame filter was clogged with dirt and crap...anyways lets see if its durable as it says its the filter doesnt need to be replaced

a cheap filter would probally do the same cause you was clogged

cone filter r worth less unless it on a turbo or a cai

the stock box is a cai it take air from bellow but its longer route and its a small opening
