Need advice on spark plugs and wire sets. I heard that NGK Iridium IX spark plugs and wire sets were good, however other people in other 240sx forums tend to disagree.

Get OEM plugs and wires. There really isn't any need for most people to waste money on other things. OEM wires have proven themselves to be exceptionally good, at a low price. Plugs aren't going to give you power...your money is better spent elsewhere.

bosch doesn't suck, expecting fantastic gains from spark plugs suck.

Iridiums... Since iridium is stronger and have a higher melting point then platnum, it's probably made for cars with high boost or nitrous. I'd personally go with Bosch's Platnum 4's because it's got a open tip where as regular plugs have a electrode over the tip so gas have to flow around the electrode to get to the spark. Here's a link to bosch's platinum 4. If anyone has anything to correct me on, please do so. This is just what I think and in a scientific reasoning, I may be incorrect.

Yeah...but you changed from OLD bosch plugs to NEW iridium plugs. Do you know if the power gain came from going from OLD to NEW plugs, or bad to good plugs? I'd bet the majority of the questionable butt dyno gains are from the OLD to NEW change.

There was a set of Bosch plantium 4s in my car when I purchased it... in my opinion these plugs are crap.... I switched them out with regular NGKs and these seem to get the job done just as well if not better.

I run NGK #6 non plantium and they work very well for my application. I paid 6 bucks for all 4.

hmmm... can't tell the diference between plugs... maybe because of upgraded ignition, all plugs seems to work the same for me. So I just picked the plug that enables the sparks to come in contact with the air/fuel mixture in the best possible way... which is the top of the plug, not the side... standard on most plugs.

I've had a bad experience with Bosch +4's. The car would start shake and bog when cruising at 3500 rpms, they were new plugs too, so i had them on for a week and put some NGK's back in, problem gone. NGK's come stock from the factory, that has to mean something...

I read a few motorcycle mag's and on one issus the tested spark plugs. They bought something like 40 different kinds and styles. Then installed them and then dynoed. Out of all the plugs ALL of them gave the same HP and TQ. So really I would just use what ever one would last the longest. Of couse this was a stock motorcycle, so there might be a difference on turbo or nitrous, but i doubt that there is any difference on N/A cars.

Come to think of it.... I had that same problem with it bogging out... and it acted like it wanted to die sometimes when coming to a stop..... I haven't had that happen to me since I changed my spark plugs to the NGK.....

I have a friend that visited China last month. He said as he was touring the country side deep in China's mainland, he and his tour group came onto this farm. In actuallity, it wasn't a farm, it was just a disguise from the outside. His dad's brother is some high ranking government official, so he gets to see what's behind closed doors. Anyways, inside it was a factory that made NGK spark plugs. All packaged and exact copies of the real thing. In China, they have hundreds of those kinds of factories turning out pirated copies of Windows XP, sewing machines and etc. I believe that NGK now stands for "No Good Kind." When it's made in China, quality control just went out the window!

I've heard and had experience to back it up that the car will run like crap on anything but NGK. Dunno why but it's true, don't waste money on anything else. Good 'ole BKR5E11's on your NA motor and 7's on turbo.

Whatever you do, don't run bosch platinum +4. Bosch are the worst spark plugs ever for any car. The part shop try to tell you they are the best, but I have never heard anything good about them. NGK's are the best kind of plug to run in a Nissan, and iridiums are also excellent plugs. Don't waste money on junk plugs that will make your car loose power, stay with NGK'S.

I bought cold range NGK platinums for my high compression KA. It cost $50 for all 4!

Not only that but they were VERY hard to find, I am fairly certain that a special order had to go in to NGK to have them make my plugs haha

You could also use Silverstone Sparkplugs from Nology.

Plase . .don't knock on Bosch if you don't know anything. Bosch has been making spark plugs and related products for a very . .very . . very . . long time. I bought the Platinum 4's for my coupe when I had it and it ran better than new. 4 Gateways for the spark to travel . . plus very very good insulation and high quality. NGK is good, but it's stock . . unless you upgrade to the better NGK plugs. Well, either way . .all I know is that Bosch Plugs AND wires are defintely reliable. I am speaking from experience.

I agree w/ gosh...

I have regular Bosch platinums w/ single electrode... yearly checks w/ no problems. I just clean n put a little anti-seize on the threads & pop them back in... 50,000+ on them & still running strong. 1989 se daily driver. 184K on it now.

Maybe I will shell out for a new set when my odometer hits 200K
