Hi my g/f has a 89 240sx with the single cam motor automatic, at idle it shakes like crazy, when it is put into drive it skakes even more and the idle drop to 500, but when given gas it goes away and seems to have a lot less power. monday i am going to my old motor and am wondering what i should pull off, heres a couple of tests i did by looking at some forms. " in park while idling i pulled off sparkplug wire #1 and it didnt afect it, then put back in and pull #2 and it died. repeated for #3 and it died also, then #4 it didnt do anything. so does this mean #1 and 4 are faltly spark pulgs or injectors? also what other part should i pull off my motor that might have any benfit to fixing this problem? and could you please describe where they are on the motor or car, thanks. ALSO! her seat belt glider just stop working when i was testing the damn thing so now it doesnt move from the starting position. any help is apricated thank youChris

ok first of all how long has this been happening, did it just start? Second what firing order do you have? I believe it should go 1432 in a clockwise order. look at your distributor and check you order, if wrong swap the first and fourth wire. Third, check the make sure the first and fourth are actually firing if the second step does not work. take the wire and took it to a ground on the car like where the shock struts are. Be careful, because you can get shocked and then you know for sure that the wires are good. This step you need to check the plugs then wires, then cap, etc. It could be a fault in the ignition system or you have two dead injectors or cylinders. Try pulling the injector wires off if the ignition test does not work. Do you hear a change in engine tone? More then likely you have the firing order wrong.

peacearic andersonhope that helps.

Well i don't know if this helps, but i had a customer come in with a 89 Honda Civic automatic with the similar problem. I forgot exactly how it was but like you described, he would put in in gear or park (forgot which was first) and it would shake the whole car. Once he changed to drive or park (whichever was second haha) the shaking stops. The diagnosis led me to the Motor mounts being bad, once those were replaced the problem was gone. It can be a numerous amount of things, take it to your mechanic and let him have a look. Just thought i could give you a idea. Hope you fix it.
