I have an 89 240sx car with bad engine , and a 91 thats rusted out but has a good engine. Both have automatic transmissions. I am using the guide here to swap from the KA24E to the KA24DE, but I am having trouble finding information on the transmissions and their control units. The 89 harness has a dash connector, then the ECU connector, then a 10 pin white connector and a single wire. The 91 harness has the dash connector, the ECU connector, and then a 14 pin connector and a connector for a diode. Does anyone have info on how to re-pin the dash and the connections just behind the ECU to have a running car and keep CONSULT and speed control or would that require nearly a full front harness replacement?

I guess I can live without the CONSULT, but its getting close to time for me to drop the engine back in, if I left the plug loose for the transmission harness, E116 to F5 in the engine harness from the 91 to 94 service manual I dont have a similar schematic for the 89 90 sohc, will this cause the automatic control unit to go into limp mode or will it work somewhat normally if it is not communicating to the engine ECU?

I have my car back together almost, need to reinstall the dash and interior peices. I was able to use the 91 ka24de engine and the 89 automatic transmission and left the interconnect between the ECU and the ATU undone. I ran it a mile and it shifted rough, so I checked the fluid levels again and added another quart to top it off and it seems to be shifting normal now. I was a bit worried it would have been stuck in limp mode as i was unable to find the answer I was needing so I just went on blind faith.

No, I am not going to leave it as an automatic, but next summer I am planning to get a s13 silvia clip and I will be going 5-speed then. I can live with the slushbox till then. One thing I have noticed is the dohc lets you know you have an open diff, unlike the sohc that was in it. Next weekend I am going to swap the internals from the hicas vlsd into my open differential housing.

Many thanks to Nicoclub and all the wonderful information here and in this thread in particular zerothread/162443 and while I had the engine out I fixed the timing chain rattle as per this thread zerothread?id=105618
