A friend of mine got me a great deal on some 300zx breaks. His friend is going to be selling his 91 300zx, that was recently in an accident to there's quite some body damage. But he's offered to give me the entire front and back break set with 5lug conversion with stock rims in exchange for $350 and my 1990 240sx break set with 4 lug conversion and alloy rims. Basically a big break swap.

I know that the 300sx breaks can easily be installed onto a 240sx. But what about 240sx breaks on a 300zx? Also is there anyway to do the whole swap while keeping the 300zx a 5 lug and the 240sx a 4 lug at the same time? Reason why I’m asking is because I prefer the teardrop allow rims over the 300zx alloy rims (plus I just put new Toyo tires on mine)

I've never heard of putting 240 brakes on a 300. You can stay 4 lug and use the 300zx brakes, you just have to have the rotors redrilled to 4 lug, which you can get done at a machine shop, your also going to need new brake lines to allow you to use the calipers

Are you talking about 300ZX rotors with the 240SX 4 lug hubs?

rotors as long as they are kept w/ the corresponding calipers will fit fine on the hubs since the nissan bores should be the same (and many ppl have done 5 lug conversion w/ stock rotors - at least for the rear - front "should" be similar).

The only problem i can see is the brake line. Notice there are 240sx -> 300zx brake lines, but no 300zx -> 240sx brake lines. You wouldn't want to mickey mouse this line since there were ppl who tried to make their own 240->300zx brake line = disaster.

Good lord man... no! There is no logical reason to do downgrade the braking system of a faster & heavier car.

If i understand what you've posted so far, you're talking about downgrading the 300zx's brakes to 240sx brakes because of your asthetic preference...

If i've got this straight then you definatley need to rethink your whole approach. the Z's a much heavier car with a much faster engine. It can be done, but it would be completely UNSAFE.

If i've misunderstood your plan i appologize, but again, don't downgrade the ZX like that. You'll regret it.

If you're friend's looking for another set of Z32 brakes i'm selling a set right now for $310 shipped. They have the 300zx hubs and all still in tact. Perfect for a 240sx swap or a 300zx rebuild.

I think his question is 2 fold.

For him, he's just doing a normal 300zx brake swap, but wants to keep his teardrops (if they have the right pattern behind the wheel, they will clear fine), hence 4-lug.

He can get a deal from his buddy, but his buddy is selling the messed up 300zx (I'm hoping as a parts car & not a driving car) so that 300zx still needs something to make it stop & go for simplicities sake.

Hmm, is the 300zx totalled? Because if its not...240sx brakes will not work, wrong bolt pattern and too weak for a 3000lb+ car as was already said.

As far as putting the Z brakes on the car, you may as well suck-it-up and like the Z rims if you plan on using all 4 brakes/hubs. Reason I say this is because the Z calipers will not clear the teardrop S13 rims anyway. Besides, with a 5-lug setup on a 240 you will have a plethora of rims to choose from. It's extremely hard to find good rims with a good offset for a 4-lug 240sx. As far as the brake lines, I recommend going to SPLparts.com or PDM-Racing and get the brake line kits that set up the S13 for 300zx calipers. The 240sx uses a banjo-fitting, and the 300zx uses a IF flare fitting. Besides, stainless lines are great for getting rid of that mushy pedal feeling. Also, if you are going with all 4 Z brakes, you will have to modify the ebrake cable to work with the 240sx, AND also buy the master cylinder off your friend's Z because you WILL need it. The brakes are massive for the 240sx and the tiny stock m/c does not have enough pressure compensate. If your friend's car isn't totalled and he plans on driving it, there's no way you guys can just 'swap'
