Yeah, so I bought this car knowing it had some kind of ticking. Well after I filled up the gas tank and I got on the highway, the car acted as if it were out of gas when I hit 70mph. Pulled over, tried to start it... it wont turn over. When AAA arrived, they started to tow the car, and when the front was lifted, oil just started seeping out of the motor. I couldnt tell you where the oil was leaking from but I know it sucked it dry. Coolant/Antifreeze level was fine.

Its a 90 SOHC Automatic

Battery isn't dead and before I realized anything I saw the temp gauge just drop. Before the car died...please help

And my home computer is ****ing up so if you could send me an email at [email protected] or give me a call and tell me whats going on my number is (314)458-1791 thanks I preciate it.

Find out about the oil first. What you mean by doesn't start? Could be just a battery connection. If you were drivign and then it died I'd say bad alternator and it was driving off the battery, drained power of battery and then you ran out of juice. You can go about 60miles with the dohc engine and headlight w/ radio on, with a fully charged battery

gettin to 70 then acting like its out of gas could be the fuel pump.

yeah that sounds like what my old 93 AT did

except it would only do that when it was low on fuel. i could floor it and it would accelerate as if i'd only applied a tiny bit of pressure. turned out to be the fuel pump

Could be vaccum leak. Clogged fuel filter, could be basic tune-up. If it was a vaccum issue I'd expect to see more of an issue at idle than at higher rpms.....Could be just a bad connection somewhere

Only a thousand... includes some CF hood w/ a 3" greddy exhaust, not an ounce of rust, its maroon red, and has a full interior brand new carpet n seats...but anyways... i was thinking about selling my monte carlo and gettin a rb26 for it, but if its just simple ****... then ok, but the motor had a ticking noise coming from the valve cover...

altenator + battery + cheap fuel pump = $280ish $320w/ taxoil seals no available threw autozone... so dealership might charge me up the ***.....

or i can get a dohc w/ just a blown headgasket for $200 w/ 5speed transmission

or sell my monte carlo and get a rb26dett...which im highly doubt im goign to do....but it might be possible

the ticking you are hearing is the timing chain guards, its so common on 240's that some people think thats the way the engine should sound. i fixed mine with stp oil additive. its no biggie unless its super loud. id do an rb25 or rb20 swap unless you enjoy ripping your hair out and spending money out the ***. hell i'd do an LS1 swap before an rb26

now it didn,t have oil in it or it was veary low and the ticking you heared was a conneting rod, and when you drove it on the highway the connecting rod broke and put a hole in the side of the block or oil pan thats were all the oil came from when the tow truck driver picked it up sorry that sucks

my friend has a rb26dett in his s13, and he uses it as a daily driver and it runs fine...spent a grand total of $4500 w/ shell and all.

Anyways... yeah sounds like my car threw a rod... anyways, Im swappign out the SOHC and putting a DOHC as for now, so I can atleast keep both cars. And after the swap, its all about suspension.

New cambers, dampers, control arms, inner/outter tie rods, and sways

quick new question.. i want to keep my automatic AS OF NOW, cause of the simple fact I dont have all the parts to swap it to a manual. Would I be able to use a manual ECU on a automatic ECU?

wtf are you talking about, keep the auto ecu no matter what, no speed or rev. limiter and your friend must have stolen that rb26. cause you can do an rb25 or rb20 swap for that, but not the 26. oh and i second the rod thru the block get a new ka for 500 bucks and cut your losses...

If the owner didn't warn you of engine problems, go rigth back and get your money. They are required by law to tell you about everything, including engine problems.

Don't be so sure about you knowing every rb26 if you look hard enough you can find one. Anyways... he did tell me, so I geuss I'll just trouble shoot it.

How/Where/Why did my oil started spewing out from underneath when the tow truck raised it?

What could cause it not to turn over?

could be a bad injector or injector ring. Also fuel pump. You do need to find out where that oil leak is coming from that is serious buisness. Did the owner tighten the oil plug up, did they mess with the oil pan? and not put seelant around the edge of the pan? Could be a bad line somwhere. You got to ask yourself these questions then approach the problem. How you learn more about your car and how to fix stuff. Motor could have not had oil in it and you threw a rod strait threw the block...... Obviously you should have been looking for protruding objects from the motor to be sure. Next time take someone with you that knows about cars before actually buying the car please.. Hate when people get ripped off that dont deserve it.

what im saying is that you think you can come in here and tell everyone that you know some guy who did a bought a 240 and did a rb26 swap for 4500. thats like saying my sisters goldfishes friends has a GTR. its not happening, maybe if he owned a shop, got a free 240, did all the fab work himself, and had hookups in japan, then its feasible, but highly unlikely. and judging by the questions your asking, i highly doubt you own a shop or know anything about fab work...

Why? When he bought the whole rb26 for $3100? It aint like he JUST bought the damn car. You know before drifting was a big issue, prices were cheaper. And yeah I don't own a shop, but we have some serious connections and the 240 family in St. Louis is pretty close.

Anyways, I'm just going to drop the RB25 into it.

Found out I did throw a rod threw teh block into the oil pan, there was a 1/4 inch gap from the block to the oil pan from teh rod hitting it that hard.

Next question... for the rb25.. .can't I just use the VG30 transmission with a RB26 bell housing? I have the Rb26 bell housing already and parts from another rb25.

of course i know how cheap 240's were before the "drift" scene. we (my sister before i got it) have had a 240 for 6 years...not everyone here just jumped on the bandwagon... rb25 is alot easier than the rb26. and tons cheaper too. and about your transmission question, i dont think it will fit, not positive, but pretty sure...

Well i just did some research on another thead and it does work, but Im just going to go ahead and do the rb20 transmission and bolt it up to the rb25. anyways... anyone know where i can get a rb25 head?
