1989 240sx automatic. Just purchased a few weeks back for 800.00. It runs, but really crappy, it's okay cuz that motors coming out and either jz/rb going in :) so I put the car in neutral to push it out of the way of the street sweeper, and it doesnt move!!! i'm pushing as hard as i can (yes the ebrake is down) and it moves an inch or so. I took me and my roomate to move the car, and we were both pushing really hard. When i start the car it idles rough, and when i put it into drive and hit the gas, the engine just revs and slowly catches and starts to roll. I jacked up the front and back of the car and spun the wheels. the front wheels turn, but not freely and seem to rub on the brake pads. the rear wheels turn (while in neutral) but not like they should. hard to turn. if i spin them they only move like 1/2 turn. What do you guys think, diff? driveshaft maybe? or maybe the transmission linkage? I just want my car to roll !!!!! lol

Do you have a welded dif? I'v heard that if you weld them theirs some type of seize that can happen if you dont add some locktight or something like that...Not realy sure exacly but i read a thread about the welded difs and the guy had this exact problem

I would try to jack the car up and put it on stands. Then unbolt the driveshaft from the rear diff. Fyi mine were a major b**** to break loose. WIth that undone and the wheels still won't turn then you will know it is in the rearend/rear hubs. If it turns freely then you know it is in the driveshaft forward. My guess would be the transmission might be facked up. :gotme

how long did the car sit for? the rear brakes are probably pretty well rusted together.

I was thinking its the mission or brakes. The guy I bought the car from seemed a little sketchy, couldn't pass up a good deal tho. The good news: new motor, mission, driveshaft, diff, and brakes are on the way, but I'm going to get right to it and figure out what it is. Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll keep you posted!
