I have been trying for who knows how long to get it to pass but it will not do it. The ka24de is bran new it only has 1500 miles on it so why it will not pass I do not know. Here are the reading from the last smog:

15mph:

CO2-14.2o2-0.7HC-152CO-0.66NO-1174

25mph

CO2-14.6O2-0.3HC-96CO-0.40NO-741

any help would be nice thank you

your combustion lambda is 1.009 at 15mph. perfect combustion is 1.000 with a range of .98 to 1.02 as acceptable. Both your 15 and 25mph indicate the same range. Your engine is running effeciently. So this indicates your cat convertor has gone south. Replace your cat and you should sail. Since you are obd 1 you are not required to buy a factory cat. You can go to just about any muffler shop to get one installed. Wrecking yards do not sell cats as its against the law here in california. so you need to buy a new one. There is a muffler shop in rancho cordova thats sells cats at a very reasonble price with a 2yr warranty. Right now the name escapes me but you might want to look up shops in that area. If I think of it I will post back the name.

but it dose not seem to be runing right. it seems like it has a little miss and it has a bad idle and it will not let me turn the idle down, no matter how far I turn the adjuster in it will not go down past 800rpm.

are you disconnecting the tps when making the idle adjustment. If your are and it still wont go down you may have a vaccum leak. Although your lambda readings do not indicate a lean condition nor do you CO readings. If it had a vaccum leak I would expect to see your CO readings at flat 0.0%

I thought that it might be running rich because the last time that I filled up I got 215 miles on the tank.

The only way to be 100% sure you have a ca problem is to perform an intrusive test before the cat. They have a special probe for this at test and repair facilities. They pop a small hole in the exhuast and take a measurement. If the numbers match what was coming out the tail pipe then your cat isnt working. The tail pipe is done first then the hole is drilled for the intrusive test.

I would strongly recommend doing this since your lambda calculation indicates the engine mixture is right on target. It is a simple test they can run in manual mode. You do not want to drill the hole till the tail sample is taken as the hole will let O2 in destroying the tail sample. The whole can be plugged after the test with a special plug designed for this reason.

Hmmm... I doubt the cat is his problem. Even if it were completely toast, his NOx wouldn't be that high, and his other numbers would be higher (especially CO% @25).

What's your timing set at? Also, did you install different (high-compression) pistons or anything in your engine?

When you polished the ports, did you touch the combustion chambers or swirl patterns? If not, you should be good.....

How to: LEGALLY SMOG AN SR20/RB26 ENGINE SWAP:

The best way to smog your ride is the legal way! We legally pass the vehicles using CNG/LPG/propane gas. The vehicles are slightly modified and passed on propane, and then, upon the owners discretion, changed back to regular pump gasoline, there are no permanent modifications done to the vehicle, the turnaround is about 4-6 hours.

We will gladly explain the conversion process to anyone who would like to convert their own vehicles, please feel free to email us at: [email protected] with any questions. Any engine can be legally smogged and registered. Turboed, supercharged, high compression JDM motors, SR20DET, RB26, any engine in any car.
