If you had $43,000 to spend on either

(1) a brand new Nismo 370Z

Image

or

(2) a classic 240Z

Image

what would you do?

If it was a daily driver, then the 370.

Would not want anyone crashing into an S30.

Defiantly the s30, always been a fan of early 240s whereas I find the 350/370 to be less of a pure sports car then they could be. Would love to just cruze in that 240

For 43k, that would have to be ONE HELL of a 240Z! Between the two, I
would probably pick the 370Z. It has a stiffer chassis, better
suspension, and more up to date. Overall, it would be less of a pain.

However a nicely restored 240Z can be had for less than half the cost of a
370Z, so lets say you could get a 240Z that was basically "new" (in that
it's been completely gone through), and I would prefer a 240Z for that
money. The 240Z has a timeless look and is still a great looking car. I
would personally want one with an up-to-date engine, 138HP is kind of a
bummer in that car. As light as is it, even 250HP would be adequate IMO.

If I had to spend 43k I don't think I would get a Z.. There are cars out
there with similar performance for less money, or better cars for similar
money, in my opinion. A BMW 135is could be had for 43k, and it's got
boost!! If we dipped into the used car market, 1-3 year old CPO cars
become very competitive.

A 240Z and a Jeep Cherokee are all a man needs, aside from a dog and a woman.

I drove a 135 recently and the god damned thing was so much f**cking fun that I momentarily forgot how ugly it was!

Like Wes said, two nice 240z's could be had for 43k.
I'd rather the classic look (even if the engine is stock) to motor around in than the new fangled plastic bumper car.

I owned a few S30s in my younger days (2 -240s,2-260s and a 280)so i would go with the 370.

The S30 has less technology but its also has doors that are a reasonable height and an inline motor.

And $43,000 into an S30 could have many newer features but never be as "safe" as the 370.

I have never owned or driven either, but I have driven a 350z and a 280zx, and I think the Datsun is more to my liking.

Really I'd love a 510 goon and $43,000 dollars.

A 43k classic Z would either be a museum queen or a major custom which could not be used as a DD very well. The positive is that it's already a classic and should go up in price depending on the condition and customization (if that's the case). The Z would be a much better DD and you would not have to worry about it near as much in a crash. Being new it's replaceable. It will also depreciate in value.

So, I'd pick a CTS-V instead :)

This is such a tough call. I have always wanted to restore a 240Z and toss an RB26DETT into it and build it up to be a beast.

Then again, given the money, I would likely opt for newer tech with the safety in mind, because I wouldn't be able to have a car like a built 240Z and not drive it all the time. I would feel safer in a car like the 370Z. Too many retards that have driver's licenses in Alabama. Unfortunately, after 43K there is no play money for the Z - that is likely what you're going to spend OTD cash. But that's what fun and work is for. Work for more fun.

I have thought about selling my 40th and getting a non-anniversary or Nismo considering what I'm going to do with my Z is changing from garage queen to actually driving it on a track. Tough decisions.

That's what I was thinking exactly. More pointedly...for 43k I would have neither.

If I was forced to spend 43K and only given the above choices I'd probably go with the 240. Assuming I can get a 240 in decent shape for 15k, that leaves a boat load of cash for me to bring the 240 up to speed in the infotainment category as well as swap in a much better motor/trans combo. After all was said and done you'd have an up-to-date zero mile 240Z.

Not sure why you'd take a 370 over that.

BTW, that image of Bella is awful.

Thats a very tough question I love them both very much but I think I would choose a 370z just because I would be able to just pay it off and not have to pay interest on the note. Then I would buy a clean stock unmolested S30 shell later down the road and do a long drawn out build/restore on it.

370. I like 240Z's and everything, but 370's in every way are a far superior vehicle, ESPECIALLY when it comes to suspension geometry.

For 43k I wouldn't consider either Z. WAY too much money for a middle of the road sports car. It'd take a Hell of a lot more wow than a Z can provide to part me from that much dough.

370Z is nearly as light as my FRC, has 6 less horsepower, 9 and 10 inch wide wheels (where my C5 has 7.5 and 8.5), has seats that dont flop around and has double-wishbone (cept not with leafsprings like my C5). 370 is an outstanding vehicle for it's price. The Nismo version makes more HP than my Vette but I agree that 43K is too much for it, I'd much rather have a regular 370Z. They're giving away C6 Grand Sports nearly right now (a buddy of mine picked a 2012 up new for 48K) so I'd lean much more to that side than for a premium edition 370.

Nah, but you CAN compare it when you're spending $43k on either. You can buy a great condition 240Z for $5k-$10k and drop the remainder into engine swap, maintenance, suspension, performance, ect, ect, ect....

OR you could buy a new 370Z and read the owner's manual. First option seems cooler-er.
