I have been into Honda for a while and recently, dumped the lude and I really wanna get a 240. have always liked them and have a good oppurtunity. That said, im looking at a 90 hatchback. i have no idea as to the wngine code but i know that its a ka24 but not sure the exact model. A frend of mine has told me that pre 91 there is no way to swap in an sr20 because the mounts are different, and i would have to get special mounts made or just not do it. the real reason for this car in the first place is to be awesome and then reliable. 160,000 miles white 1500-1800?Any info is appriciated on this guys. looking to get out of honda for good :)

The 89 and 90 are KA24E, and after that it's KA24DE for DOHC. Yes, you can swap the SR20DET. The KA24E SOHC has the power steering on the opposite side of the engine and there are some issues with instrumentation. All the parts you'll need can come from the SR20DET front clip or sourced otherwise. No need for special mounts as far as I know. There's plenty of threads that deal with this. Use the search and you'll get lots of intel.

i know many people on this forum have sr swaps in their pre-91s... the motor in the car you are talking about is a KA24E, unless there has been a motor swap somewhere in the car's life.

if the body is in good shape, and the car has been serviced regularly, then 1500-1800 is a good price for the car. the KA's in our cars last quite a long time if taken care of.

Well the hatch will need to be replaced and there is 171000 miles on it. also surface rust on the roof. $1600. i dunno about this yet.

I wouldnt spend that much. I didnt spend but more then 1K on mine when I bought it and It had 212K miles and the body was flawless except for dent in the bottom of the fender. inside was good too. I would talk them down some.

stay away from it if it has rust on the roof... seriously, rust truly is our worst enemy... it's not something that you are going to be able to fix or replace down the road (like a hatch), unless you do some serious (and probably expensive) cutting/rewelding/molding to fix it.

Id say keep looking for a better deal on a 240. I bought mine for $1800 (92 with the DOHC, perfect condition no rust except on the hatch which I replaced, 145k miles), talked him down from $2600. They're out there-- you just cant ever take the first 240 you see... it's a rule. haha

eh, thats not true, i took the first 240 i found and i couldnt be happier! no rust, no issues (other than the noisy resonator which i took care of) and its running damn strong even today. it was mint condition when i bought it, and the engines only trouble was a leaky valve covor. not bad at all i'd say :)

see you guys make a good point. there is two little rust spots on the roof that are just surface rust. i could sand that down and prime it. the hatch is also messed up to the point of a new one. i talked him down from 2grand already, what do you think a reasonable offer is on a 1990 sohc with 171000 on it? thanks for the help. not tryin to lowball the guy, just want a good price.i was planning a swap sr20det. what is needed that the pre91 cars do not have? i have heard power steering lines, ac compressor?
