I recently swapped my 1991 240sx from auto to manual after i blew my automatic transmission. After i finished the whole swap, the car would start fine, however, would not have a constant rev speed when not moving. Slowly the problem got worse, with the car shutting off if i did not keep my foot on the gas, cuz the revs just went high then low back and forth when not moving. Finally, i turned the car off one day. and i havent been able to start it again. I did some research and havent been able to decide what the problem is. I might need a new starter, but the electric boxes all click when i try to turn on, as well as the starter. I have a new battery, and i cleaned my battery terminal lines as well. I still have my auto ecu in the car, but i feel that that is not the problem. I heard that it could be the solenoid inside the starter, or the ignition switch on the side of the starter... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, well.....how so does it not start? Like a machine gun? Can you get it to start after a few test spins of trying to start it (kick the key to run in half a second intervals or to the sound sounding of a crank then stopping shortly and getting it to run) does it try to start or does it just spin? Explain what happens in detail.....Dont assume its the ecu off the bat because you should check what you got first. Best of luck and update us.

what acutally happens is the car used to start, but the revs would never level. always jump up and down. Then the car wouldnt start immediately. NOw the car wont start at all. All i can hear when i turn the key is clicking in the switch boxes, both of them and a faint click in the starter area. No noise, no turning over, nothing. just blank silence. I never had the rev problem until after the switch, however i did hear that sometimes people had trouble with the starter, after they did the auto to manual switch. However, i dont know why the switch to the manual would affect the starter.

I just used my auto wiring harness and spliced wires to fix the wiring, as well. I dont know but i am at a loss. Its sad not having that car to drive.
