Asking for my friend again...he is wondering if we pull the LSD out of a 93 J30, could we just use the halfshafts from his '91 240 diff and put them into the J30 diff?

use the ones from 95-96 J30s. They have the same flanges for the halfshafts and easy install... GL

well the problem there is we were going to get the diff out of a '93 J30 at Pull-a-Part. There's a second one there but our friend already got its diff.

... check it out first before buying. i knoe sum1 is selling his s13 vlsd here in houston but its too far for u and he wont ship. craigslist is okay but be sure u see it first coz they can fool u. GL and merry xmas...

half shafts are not axles, they are the parts of a 2 piece drive. You could use the output flanges from your 240 rear, but then you will need to take it apart, replace seals, shim it and so on. Its cheaper to get the axles you can find them for 20 a pop at a u-pull if your lucky

when i said half shafts i meant flanges. but replacing seals and shims seems alot. i might order some axles.

thanks for the help.

oh my bad... i mentioned axles but i mean halfshafts... sorry

and let me add sumthing about the j30 differentials... i know all j30s are abs equipped so u need to find an abs driveshaft coz non abs ds are 3/4" longer than abs ds... dats all!

You can make it fit without swapping driveshafts, there is enough slack in it.

yeah its kind of mixed, i hear no problems then I hear problems. So well see...

I have a 1 piece drive shaft in my car and I lost my LSD when it was dyno tuned. I had the stock open end packed with a Cusco 1.5way and a 3.69 ringgear from Z32TT.

I also have an ABS J30 VLSD getting ready to go in, I don't know that it will fit, but I will keep you posted. If it doesn't I am going to rebuild the one that's now open with another 1.5way. Most likely Kaaz because they sell rebuild kits. Worst case I'll just have to sell the J30 jobber because I am not having another custom driveshaft made.

Well I have a LS6 with a th350 and a 1 piece DS, I tried the J30 ABS diff today and fail, not enough slack on my DS it wouldn't even come close. But on most S13s without abs, it will clear. Sometimes it doesn;t but from what I gathered it will clear.

Also my local drive shaft place could shorten a drive shaft for about 50 bucks.

yeah i've heard and i have a lot of fun riding with some of my 240 buds.240 is what i'd like but may not be possible until im done with school.i may have to go honda.....which would mean Civic EX and swap its for a DOHC VTEC or just get an Si or V6 accord.but i'd like a EVO or WRX STI cost is just way too high for me....

i tried puttin my 240 6 bolt half shaft in the j30 diff they fit right but the diff turned open diff. but i also noticed that the j30 halfshafts are a tad bit longer than my open diff halfshafts. i'm just going to buy some axles in a week.

The diff is open because the coupler is leaking

Hmm Odd never noticed that. BTW the S13 and J30 rears boths use the 12 tooth pinion I looked it up. Its the 3.69 Q45 diff that uses the 13 tooth pinion.
