i want to put one of the huge throttle bodies from a gen 1 240sx, '89-'91 with a ka24e, on my '97 ka24e truck. i just pulled one from a '90 in great shape at a pick and pull, and got it for $15. if i do it, i will make a completely custom manifold based on stock geometry, but with big open pipes, plenum, yada yada. so the bolt pattern doesn't concern me.i've been studying the diagrams and it doesn't look good. some things can be compensated for, like the misplaced fast idle cam, but other things, like the tps, the vacuum lines, and lack of a maf are throwing me bones. i suppose i need a full understanding of both systems (both the 240's and the truck's), but i'll need an fsm for the 240. i don't know enough about engine vacuum either. i know that the emission control on the '90 240 is minimal compared to my obdII '97. my tb has far more crap coming off of it. has anyone tried and/or completed this mod? i really just want some sort of foundation. i'm willing to pioneer this, but any help or support for a discovery mission is appreciated.if i do it and it works (summer time is such a perfect time for crap like this) i will make an faq/sticky/whatever you call those things where you put lots of pictures and instructions, showing how you too can transform your truck into an air sucking monster.:metal:

ignore all the 240 components on the manifold. adapt it to use what ever your truck uses on its manifold. Idle air control will be your bigest hang up. vaccum and tps will be the simpler part of the job. use all your truck solonoids for vaccum control. use the tps off your truck on the 240 throttle plate. you may need to do some modification to wiring to extend them to the new locations of components.

i think you think that i'm using a 240 manifold too. i'm not. i only have the throttle body, and plan to make a custom manifold, modeled from the stock dimensions of my existing '97 truck manifold, but bigger. the throttle body from the 240 doesn't have nearly as much crap on it as does the one on my truck. hell, the one on my truck has TWO holes, one little one off to the side, which i think is the maf.here's a good link, scroll down half way for the part about the throttle body.

sorry, here's the link:

hawaiian hardbody

wow, i just realized that this guy used a picture that i took to show what the swirl control is. i've been plagerised! sweet!

anyway, a good photo set with labels showing all of the emission/idle/vaccuum crap all over this beatch. i need to figure out what the truck has that the 240 didn't.

tell your friends! there has to be somebody who's done this. :ylsuper

none of my "friends" would do such a thing. They like cars stock, plain jane not inventors or car enthusiasts at all! wanna guess who their mechanic is...lol

the stuff on the throttle body is as follows the bolt like thing near the top on the valve cover side is you idle up solonoid for A/C, the one directly below it is your Idle air control valve. the hole is infact your air flow meter. the electrical device toward the front of the engine is your TPS. you could put on an airflow meter in the intake tube much like the 240. I dont believe a 240 airflow meter will work . the tps would still have to be hooked to the throttle plate and you wil need to use the one from your truck, The solonoid and the IACV can be plumbed just about any where into the intake and they need to be supplied with air from the intake duct infront of the throttle body but behind the airflow meter. use like a 1 inch hose and plug it into the intake tube, if you go with a metal intake tubr you could weld on a port for it. and a port and passage to feed the solonoid and IACV.

ok, sweet. now what about vacuum? my one point of note is this: on the 240 throttle body, there is only one vacuum line, and a diagram i found online says that it's a "brake boost hose". eh? i really need to learn about vaccuum. i don't think there's a brake boost hose on my truck throttle body. also, on my 240 throttle body, looking at the one vaccuum outlet, if i follow it, it doesn't go anywhere, like, it just ends inside the little pipe (doesn't actually open out into the intake hole).:arcadefre
