hey everyone i had a hole in my strut tower so i just cut out a rectangle about 6 inches by 2 inches and its right by the corner near the fender...i just wanna know if anyone knows if im really messing with the structure of it or could i get by with welding in my piece without doing any damage..i could weld but im new to patch panel fabrication..if anyone could help me out id really appreciate it..thanks

you have to upload the picture to an external hosting service like photobucket and then use IMG tags.

But I can venture to guess it's the standard strut tower rust most S13s have. The strut tower structure has about 3 pieces of sheet metal meeting in that spot. You have the upper fender rail, the strut tower, and a reinforcement piece overlapping the previous two. Usually, moisture gets stuck under the reinforcement plate and it forms rust years down the road. You can drill the old plate's spot welds and pull it off without any issue. Just replace it with a comparable piece. If it's a bit deeper than that, you can also cut out any extra rust and weld in patch material. If you're worried about moving the structure any, just slap a strut tower bar on.
