lots of ideas. What have u done so far to narrow the problem down (so someone doesn't waste their time suggesting it to u again). Have u checked your timing?

We checked the timing and are ok there

We checked the fault codes and came up with 34 - knock sensor

Would that cause the car to stall

My s13 ['92] #3 fuel injector was not firing correctly, or possibly at all, and it made my car shake like crazy. My rpms at idle were also low, which makes me think it may have been close to stalling out, though it never did [well maybe once or twice].

I had pulled the air filter and just put one back in yet did not close the cover

Will try that and see what happens

Thanks

Your car doesn't need an air filter to run, so the air filter is not the problem. If someone someone fixed their filter and their car ran fine again i'm sure it was the wiring to the maf that was messed up and all the moving around to install a new air filter masked the problem.

clear the codes and restart engine. When the engine is going to die open the throttle a little, not much just a little to keep it running. see if you can keep it going until it warms up. After the car is fully warmed up see if the symptoms are still present.
