Hi there,

I have 2 240 SXs. One is a 89 with a manual transmission. This car has thrown a rod. The other is a 91 with an automatic transmission. The transmission on this one is shot. I was wondering how much work would be involved in taking the engine out of the 91 and putting it in the 89. I definitely want to do it this way because the 91 has a rusted undercarriage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't know much about working on cars yet.

Thank you all.

the engine will be a direct drop in [providing they are both SOHC] leave the harnesses in the cars their in no need to swap all that.

The 89 is a SOHC, the 91 is a DOHC. Will this make much of a difference?

Ok, so I switch the harnesses between the 2 cars? or I need to get one from a junkyard? And do I use the ECU from the other car? or get one from a junkyard?

Are there any gaskets or anything that I will need to buy? Or is the only thing I will need tools and a hoist?

since you wont be taking any of the engine components apart you wont need any gaskets. you will need fluids but thats about it.
