I started getting the engine bay prepped to pull the dead motor out, and realized that this will be one of the easiest motor swaps i have ever done. There seems to be plenty of room everywhere to get to things.

One question though.... Is it easier in these cars to pull the engine transmission combo together, or to seperate them in the car? In my RX-7, i cant even think about seperating them in the car, but it only takes me 45 min to pull the whole combo.

Thanks for any input!!

My friend pulled out the engine with the transmission still mounted. I think its easier that way.

We pulled my freinds SOHC engine out while still attached to the trans. Seems like the easiest way.

Just pulled out my dead KA24DE with engine\transmission together.More than enough room with the right angle. Just watch your rack and steering column.

SR20DET goes in Sunday.

yeah the sohc are pretty simple. pulled 3 just installed 2

- use a wide piece of wood or the crossmember dents. place stands under the frame rails

-Front passenger side and rear drivers side of the head there are 2 holes for chains (12mm socket)

-you can leave the upper exhaust manifolds on although i say get headers

-remove the bolts underneath the mounts (14mm socket) you need a wobble extension for the driver side

-you need a long needle nose pliers and a slim screwdriver to remove the spring clips on the shifter. wear goggles and gloves. fill the transmission through there GL4 only. to reinsert the larger one just force it in open side last

- remove the driveshaft. you can just do the center coupling removing it but have to take it off at the differential to reinsert it. mark the position by the diff

-you need a jackstand to support the transmission make sure you drain it and cap the end with a rubber band and a bag or its spills all over 17&12mm sockets for the crossmember

-remove the power steering resevoir, undo rubber clamps for the lines on either side in front of the crossmember

-remove radiator, fan clutch

-consider replacing the rack and oil pan gasket if they leak cause youd have to lift the engine anyway

-if the clutch dampner is a problem take it off and carefully bend the line to meet the hose directly

-and get rid of that stupid aiv crap hotshot sells the maniofold plug use 5/8"&3/8" caps on the intake 1/8"cap on the vacuum lines

-everything else is hoses, plugs, cables, ground straps

Picked up the motor today. It cleaned up pretty nice. I will hopefully pull the old motor Fri afternoon, and do the swap this weekend.
