I have a 93 with stock KA24DE, 123,000 miles.

Just the other day I took it out and on the way back it started stalling/sputtering inconsistantly. It wouldn't rev up and it would backfire very loud. Then yesterday i went to the nissan dealer to check for dust boots and it ran fine but i went back out to start it and it wouldn't start, it was turning over but not firing. Went back about 3 hours later and it started first turn, by the time i got home it started sputtering in the low rpms again.

check the usual suspects first...plug wires, dist. cap connections, grounds, etc.

report back, but it is most likely some thing loose if its intermitent

Either the AFR is off (o2 sensor or MAF)Injector is not shutting off aka leaking causing AFR to be off.Or simple ignition timing, or lack of spark.

i took off my dist. cap and the points were horribly coroded. i was almost positive it was the spark and not something else because if the 02 sensor was bad it shouldn't keep it from starting. right?

not once its warmed up it won't. My timing was off so bad it made it run so rich it corroded and destroyed the 02 sensor, it wouldn't start once it warmed up.

So yes, i honestly think its the o2 sensor.

I have a walbro 255lph fuel pump, would that cause me to run rich? If so then i will check the O2 sensor (or if it doesn't start once warmed up again). I do know that my dist. was bad though, it looked bad.

I don't see how a bad O2 sensor will keep the car from starting, considering it wouldn't be pushing exhaust thru the sensor until after it started anyway.

But as of now i have fixed the problem, thanks for the help

Bump...

I was driving it and it died on the the highway when i was going 70mph. The the tach went to 0 from 3000 in like .2 seconds and then it went back up just as fast and i kept driving.

Later down the road it started sputtering and backfiring like crazy, i was getting no power. Pulled it over pulled out all the injector wires and plug wires and maf wires.

drove it all the way back home (10miles) with no problems. Basically i can't duplicate the problem myself so its very hard for me to diagnose

It really sound like it's dumping in so much fuel it's putting the spark out.do you have a fuel pressure reg.? also it sound like your timing mad be a tad off.It could also be a leaky injector causing you to run rich. Do you ever smell gas?stick your finger up your cars butt hole (tail pipe) and wipe down the side.if its really oily and smells like gas you know your buring rich.

I have the stock fpr in right now. I don't think the timing is off, I haven't touched it in over a year and its been fine the whole time. I removed my cat so its hard to tell what the exhaust smells like, theres lots of carbon but i don't think its too oily.

I was thinking it might be injector wires or a grounding issue? I really can't say since sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't. I feel like something is getting rattled loose...

This is to do with your thread abt your brakes. Your RPMs should drop if you press the brakes rapidly, even if there's nothing wrong.

thanks, I guess they drop a little bit but not more then 10-20 rpms. I think I am fine now, I was just curious.

I have no F%*#ing clue why my other thread was locked, i think the mod was confused, or i am very confused. lol
