I went to see a '95 base model 240 today with a mechanic and we didn't buy it b/c he said it wasn't a good deal. He's not very English proficient, but he said something about the head gasket and the radiator causing the water to overheat and something about salt (?) and something about the water under the valves (?) and that it would be extremely expensive to fix. What do yal think?

Edit: Also after we left it running for about 5 minutes after taking a test drive, the engine quiet down and he said something about the oil not being able to get into the motor or something.

Well...as for the overheating thing..if he is a mechanic then he should know what he is talking about but for like a 8 dollar part--a thermostat I fixed that problem on my 89' 240 when i had it

He said something was wrong with the valves of the motor I think.

But then he's not sure b/c he didn't even look at the valves. He just touched this pipe and said something about the head gasket and the radiator (those were the only 2 words I could understand from his English besides "overheat" and "water").

replace the thermostat, load some thick oil in. Was it valve ticking?
