I hate when this happens.. I was totally spun on wanting a 240SX, but now I got my monthly Super Sreet and they have some badass Subaru WRX's in there and now I want a WRX. So what do you guys think is a better buy? 1998 Nissan 240SX or a 2002 Subaru WRX?

grrrrrrrrr :pface

WRX hands down, but your looking at a brand new one, which is 24k and up. I dunno how much mula you got, but thats not where i would want my money. They are realy, two different classes, so you cant compare it, cept to the evo, and all of the other cars in that price range. Ahhhh....4wd.....but in reality, i love the 240sx, and will never be able to get away from it. The styling, the potential. In that class, I would get an evo 8, 0-60 in like 5.1, 1320 in like 13.8, who wouldnt want that?, but then i get back to reality and realize i dont have the funding for that stuff, just dreams for now.

Youcan do all of that with some money left over for cosmetic purposes, if thats what you are worried about.

Out of those two choices i would say the 98 240. Because when the sti comes here the wrx is gonna seem pretty weak compared to it and then you wont like it anymore. But if you could afford the sti i say go for that, of course for that much money you could build an amazing s14a

All I have to say is..........350 dollar car payments plus insurance! Hale yeah! Nah, j/p, if i had the money for a wrx, and more, i would get it in a heartbeat, but wait for the sti at least, or evo, which is out now.

well that depends. What i'm getting from your original post is that you're just a kid and dont really know what youre talking about. otherwise you wouldnt be asking this question. A 240 and a WRX are 2 different types of vehicles all together. A WRX is faster but much more expensive, it also have a different drivetrain layout. The 240 is lower priced but slower, for the money you spend on a stock WRX, a 240 can be turned into an amazing machine.

if you ask me, i would go with a 95-96 240sx SE w/ a VLSD. Swap in a Blacktop sr20det and upgrade it w/ the rest of the money you have. I also sacrifice money for things ilke food and new clothing on my car so i cant say much

Id say it depends on on weather alot to. A wrx you can drive all year round. AWD, awwww. i wish i had it. 240 is horrible in snow, so i picked up a 91 integra. But driving the winter beater just makes me so anxious to drive the 240 again. It can almost get depressing. If i just had the wrx i could drive it all year round. Wrx wagon's r bad *** 2, you can actually get 4 peoople in the car, and have room for extra stuff in trunk. They are both amazing cars, but i think the 240 looks alot nicer, and would be alot cheaper to build.

that is two big price differences...like someone else said, that payment is gonna be $$$$. but if u got the money, get the wrx...

it took a lot of money to get my car how i want it. a wrx is fast out the box... :) if u got the money, more power to ya...

if ur gettin a wrx, wait a few months til the STI comes out. OR get the EVO.

Insurance on a WRX sucks. From a performance standpoint, go WRX. Yes the 240 has great potential, but the WRX is much easier to get high HP out of (your almost 100 HP ahead to start with). Plus like everyone already mentioned, AWD!From a looks stand point, go 240. I personally think the WRX is ugly, looks kinda like a frog to me.

I dont think you should get an evo though. Mitsubishi sucks. All the eclipse/talon owners ive known are always complaining about them breaking down on a regular basis.

Hmm, well if I DID get a WRX I wouldn't keep that ugly *** hood, and I have already found all the aero stuff I would get for it. I don't like the EVO, yes I know it has mad power blah blah blah but it's ulgy and Mitsubishi. I would love to have both but the 240SX just doesn't seem all the appealing to me anymore and the WRX just looks more fun.. but in a month I'd probly want the 240 again. Oh well. Thanks for your inputs guys, I appreciate (sp?) it. I'll probly go for the 240.

All these guys have a good point. Why have a payment. save your money and buy your parts as you go.I'm 36 and drive what ever I want... I could have any car a normal income could have. My RH is my toy and not a daily driver. It's a riot to drive and beat on... and if I blow it up, its only a few thousand to build it again. But I could make my 240sx run with a wrx in most environments and still have money left over a few engines and groceries. If your as young as you sound, you might want to reconsider what you can afford, insurance wise. I have no tickets and no accidents and pay 40 a month for full coverage. I know some guys with 240's that are under 18 and pay 150 a month just for liability... that is on a 12 year old car! Imagine what it would be like on a new supercar. I wouldnt want to pay it...

But, its all about you and what you want. Weight everything before you dive in.

I think it all depends on your situation. I am in the same dilemma but my car is also 185,000 miles and its time to also get another car. I was really close to buy it until I called up the insurance agent.Im 20 and they Allstate quoted me at $350 per month if I get a WRX. Its due to sports car + under 21 + full coverage. So thats what shot me down but Im waiting until till I graduate college which wont be till 1.5 years.

I wanted to do a SR swap but Im afraid if they ever get emissions test in FL. or get into an accident than I would get screwed cause I knew of a kid doing a B18 swap into his civic and with his receipts they didnt cover the B18 engine because the car is still a civic with a B16 engine in it.I wanted the WRX more cause of more room. I also like it cause it is AWD and it drives pretty smooth yet has that aggressive feeling when you want it. I considered about the STI but I read that only 1200 (give or take a thousan) are being made and there are only 600 Suby dealerships in the US. Im sure its gonna be hard to get one. Also there are a lot of major mods you can do to it but I want to keep it stock. Yes WRX is more expensive but your also paying for a new car that has AWD and a turbo and can run low 14's all day stock with no mods and it runs perfect.Im sticking with a WRX. My opinion though.

You let an issue of SuperStreet decide what car you want to buy? Test drive the things and pick yourself.. ****

actualy thats only 5 words , the 8 and the 240 are numbers, and the sx isnt actualy a word, just letters;) ...but anyways,i would much rather have 24,000+ to get an s14 than a WRX, that would be much more fun i think, u could make a panty dropper and make it fast, instead of just being fast with the WRX b/c they are pretty ugly < my .02

you know the piece in Chess that you have 8 of? The worthless ones who follow your orders blindly, can move only one space at a time and are always the first to die? That's a pawn. Means useless, mindless drone essentially.

For the car:I'd take a WRX over a 240sx any day, but only if I could truly afford it. I'd wait for the 2004s since they have much nicer lights. Also, don't go through All-State for insurance, they are the most expensive one I have ever seen.

it sounds like you are just trying to go with "whats popular" which is a NO-NO, just because car mags have been featuring the 240 and then now the WRX , u want one, what about when it features RSX's. Supras, RX-7'S, etc. but me personally, i would go 240, its unique and FR is the BEST!! **** AWD!! AWD is for CHEATERS!! all the skill, fun and challenge is there, i drive FR all year around, rain snow or sunshine!! (but then again, i like Initial D, and many "HATERS" on these boards think if u like Initial D you are some stereotypical kid, BULL****!!)

If I had to go AWD I'd either get the new Evo 8, or get a GT-R Skyline. :) Now that would be major cool points IMHO

You'll see Evo's and STI's all over the place in a year or two.

How many have seen Skylines running around? At least in the U.S.

Depends on what you want and are willing to spend. 240sx's are attractive, cheaper to buy and insure but are slow. WRX's are kinda homely, more expensive to insure annd buy, but will essentially embarrass a 240sx with its performance. Tough call.

The STI comes in june, 300 hp, about 24 hp more than the jdm subi. Finally......we get something better than them.
