hi, im new!

ive got a 91mr2, and know buttloads about mki/mkii mr2s.. but know relitively little about the 240's... i know some of these might have been previously covered, but i have a few questions and searching thru tons of threads seems untimely. please excuse repeat questions etc.. it'll be the first and last time. i know alot about cars in general, just not 240 specifics, so feel free to get technical if needed.

that said!

is the SOHC even worth tuning?

hows the car respond to very basic mods, like intake, exhaust, headers?

does the stock ECU suck *** like most stock ecus?

MAF or MAP?

since compression is so low, is it compensated for by an extremely aggressive timing curve, or is the stock motor/ecu combo still truck-like, focusing on torque with a choked top end?

hows the valve angle and ports stock? since its a truck motor, im assuming fair gains are to be had from port/polish? basically, is the stock head worth a damn?

is there a usdm OEM LSD available, if so are they a rare option?

whats the redline, and whats the powerband?

i dont drag race, but i dont want to drive a car slower than 16 flat... whats it take (mod wise) to get 16 flat with a say, 2.0 60foot time.

again, sorry if some of these have been covered, its just alot to search for :)

Ok, I am by far not a guru but seeing as your questions seem to be rather basic, maybe I can help.

The KA24E (SOHC) can be a very capable NA motor, aswell as turbo. The DOHC and SOHC engines respond realitively the same to mods. The DE (DOHC) has better top end than the E but sacrifices low end delivery slightly. In the 1320, the DE's top end advantage makes it the quicker engine though.

Stock ECU naturally isn't performance oriented but a company called Jim Wolf Technology can do anything to your ECU that your twisted little mind can concoct. (Clicky for JWT)

Our motors have MAFS, if that's what you were asking....

I've generally heard of rather impressive gains from good Port jobs, and PDM Racing has Cam upgrade options for both the SOHC and DOHC platforms.

Ahh, LSD's. :) There are special editions of the 240 that entail both Super HICAS (a 4-wheel steering system) and an OEM LSD. Yes, they are pretty rare. Luckily, 240 guys enjoy a good launch and predictable drifting so LSDs are available from a number of sites, just hit up Google. We also have the option of ganking an LSD from mid 90's Infiniti J30's. (Do a Search for more detailed info on this.)

Redline, 6400. Atleast for my SOHC....

Simple I/H/E, possibly a better clutch, and of course competent driving ability will get you pretty deeply into the 15's without a problem I believe. I might be wrong though, I don't race yet myself, especially not drag with my auto. :rolleyes

Hope some of that helped...I answered what I could the best I could. Hopefully when some of the guys who actually know something wake up, you'll get better answers. :)Good luck!

^ thanks, now i remember hearding about infinity lsds!

i do *everything* myself, minus electrical.. so im doing the P&P myself.. im assuming everyones just doing street ports without any major reshaping right?

^^ its not *that* hard really, unless you're reshaping, which you really dont wanna do for street cars.

street ports generally consist of VERY basic work.

get intake/exhaust head gaskets, and temp glue them to the head. the ports will be smallar than the gasket.. you want to "gasket match" the head ports to the gasket (so they're the same size). trace the gasket onto the head with a pen, and grab a dremel tool and start sanding away! use cylinder stone bits, corse sanding drums, fine sanding drums, and then rubbing compound. get a variable speed dremel type tool, start slow!

when you remove the gasket, theres an outline on the port of how big the gasket holes are. first start by sanding down the very outside to the size of the gasket, then slowly work your way in, doing about an inch in. mirror polish the exhaust, BUT DO NOT POLISH THE INTAKE SIDE. intake side needs to be gasket matched, and rough to the touch (200grit sanded about).

try to remove all rough casting marks.. keep the stock port shape or you'll really screw things up.. just try to make airflow smoother.

P&P jobs are usually done in hours.. ie "i have 2 hours in my head" etc etc... if you know what you're doing, you can do a FULL port/polish job in 10 hours roughly. theres tons of online info on how to do it. if you take it slow, its something thats totally do-able at home.

91-93 redline 7ks14 redline is 6500 i think

as far as times go 15s in a stock DOCH are capable if you can drive. I ran a 16.0 with a 85mm exhaust, short shifter, and no lsd in my 91 the first time i went to the strip. I'm not saying im a very good driver just that 15s are possible. if you can hit a 2.0 60' time you will be DEEP in the 15s (my 60' time on that run was a 2.4)

its just easier to put the "quickness" of the car in reference to what i know by assuming 2.0 60foot times :)

so mid 15's STOCK on a dohc!??

sure mid 15s stock...if you can hit 2.0 60'think of it as .1 sec off your 60' = .2 secs off your 1/4the fastest stock ive heard of was 15.6, i think, on an s14
