240 KA trans on a QR25... would it work???

I had seen a discussion another forum in regards to bolting a 240 KA trans up to a QR25DE and dropping it in a 510. can't seem to find the thread or verdict and I have a QR block in the garage if someone in the central Indiana area has a spare/junk KA 240 trans lying around to find out.?

There has to be a KA trans sitting in someones garage... lol! I have two QR blocks at the moment.

Seems like it'd be easier to use a Frontier trans and block since it's RWD, maybe swap out the internals and gears of an SE-R for better performance.

Weird.... I was telling my buddy today we should QR swap his 240... Would be cool if it does infact line up. But what clutch?

Yes the Frontier trans is a definite option but if the KA trans would bolt up no need to swap gears and such. I think a 6 speed in the 510 would be a waist of time and gear. It's a 2,000 lbs car so good mpg's are easy to achieve.

By that same token, the gearing on a 4cyl truck isn't so far removed from a car as to make it necessary to swap the gears, that was just a suggestion. In fact, I don't think the KA trans differs much at all between the 240s and Frontiers of correlating years. So while the KA trans may bolt up, a QR trans will bolt up. Either option may require the use of a RWD QR block.

No. I believe it's a Frontier rwd QR25. Look at the starter location. Opposite side of the engine.

But so to answer the question. The QR uses a bigger flywheel it barley fit in the 300zx tranny. I had to grind away a little inside tranny just to be safe. And you need a frontier flywheel so you can put starter in correct rwd setup. There's pics in the videos of it. Hope that helps

I'm thinking about doing the same swap as you man. I stumbled across your threads and like the idea, plus I haven't seen anyone do it with an ae86. I want to be the first or atleast be the first one I know if with it. I cant personal message you cause I'm a new member so pm me I have some questions about the swap and stuff.
