Recently I located a 1993 240sx at a dealership nearby and having loved these cars for so long I am nearly ready to trade in my VW GTI and begin making the 240 my own. As these cars are getting on in their years, the normal wear is present but nothing that can't be fixed. However, being a 93 it does have the KA24DE and the timing chain rattle that comes with it and when test driving it I felt a lack of power from the motor. My GTI has 180 hp in a tiny car and it's got a small turbo so I'm not sure if the 240 is down on power, or my impression is off because of the power I have in my current car.

So my question can only be answered by opinion. How should a 240sx feel? I only ask that you try to be as honest and descriptive as you can because from what I read here will determine whether I go for it or not. If not, then its a few more months of saving up and I'd prefer to pick it up from a dealership.

A 240sx is not fast. Do not expect it to be. It will be a downgrade power wise compared to your 1.8t.

In my opinion, I would not get something like a 240sx from the stealership. They're overpriced enough from private parties. It's gonna be ESPECIALLY high in California.

The 240 is not a powerhouse in stock form. IMO, accelleration feels dull and uninspiring initially. The appeal of the 240 is not it's stock performance, but it's dynamic potential.

You're not going to be able to figure out if the car is down on power from some vague descriptions you read online. Get in there and do a compression test.

LOL, you're wondering why a stock 240 feels slow? That's because a stock 240 gives you at best 125-130 whp. The possibilities are endless with 240's though. From the common SR swaps to V8 engine swaps, there's been so much that people have done to these cars. Drift, drag, time attack. The rwd, lightweight, and independent rear suspension makes it a fun car to drive. Those nice fast 240's that you see running around are no where near factory stock.

I've ran against a couple GTi's at the track with my old stock redtop SR S14 so I can agree with that. Ofcourse a stock S13 SR also has over 20 hp over the stock 1.8T. I don't knock on GTi's though. They're very nice cars with decent power, but European cars are all overpriced IMO.

Ya the stock Ka motors don't have much power. They won't even really take off until second gear hits. I would keep your car and search craigslist for a 240 you should be able to find one for not to much money.

If you can keep two cars where you live, do it. I wouldn't ditch the GTI, just yet.

S13s that need building are everywhere.
