The whole story: about three weeks ago the oil light in my 240 came on. I checked the oil level, assumed the oil sending unit was bad, but decided to have the shop check it out anyway. They agreed, changed it, and the light was still on. At this point they said the car had either too little or too much oil pressure and with such an old engine, blah blah it wasn't worth spending all the money to locate the problem or rebuild the engine. Their advise was to drive it until it dies, which they guessed would be about 2 months. So I looked into either a z31 300zx turbo or a SR swap, and i concluded I can't afford the SR swap just yet. I found a decent 300zx turbo and wen't to have it checked by a mechanic today just to be safe and while i was driving home on the interstate @ 75ish the car started to shake slightly....it felt like I was in too high of a gear @ too low of a speed. I let off the gas and the shaking got worse, so I eased back on it and the shaking went away. About a mile later I heard a loud pop, saw a cloud of smoke and what looked like something flying from behind the car, and could no longer hear my exhaust. It sounded like the car had no exhaust system (loud dirty car noise....u know the one), but it still drove (barely). I coasted off the interstate into a gas station, popped the hood and saw the whole driver side covered in oil (though the oil pan was still half full). I didn't even want to know what happened I was so mad, so i dropped the hood, had her towed to the shop, and when we popped the hood there was a huge whole where cylinder #1 used to be :-( . Bad news is my 240 is dead and I can't keep her. Good news is I have another car lined up so I won't be w/o a car for but a day or two.
Short story: Threw a rod through cylinder #1.
If anyone who lives in the DFW area wants to buy what's left of the car, send an e-mail to
[email protected] and make me an offer. I can't keep the car but for another day or two, so parting it out won't work. The car is that grey color w/ decent paint (though it's far from perfect), 2.5" catback, backseat removed. I want to keep the throttle body (for the z31 later) and headunit, and preferably all the speakers in the car, though if the offer is decent i'd prolly let ya have the speakers.
i'm gonna miss her :-(
