Get a code scanner, its like $80 for 1 but you will be using it alot. The car could have a precode where it doesnt turn the light on,but still show you the problem. I bought one to reset the CEL on my 2000 VW Golf for an o2 sensor, car was slow with CEL, then I cleared it and it was quicker. You have OBD2 take advantage out of the ability to troubleshoot your car by reading a lcd panel and no just guessing by visually inspecting.

um, you don't haveta pay for one; autozone can do an OBD II scan in the parking lot for free...

or they can "loan" the tool for free (put it on a charge card for the most convenient way to pay for the scanner, then return it)

"Um", why dont you actually read my post, it's only $80 for a decent one and he has an OBD2; its a good idea to have it on hand. If I would "Um" have taken my car to autozone everytime my light went on I would have spent at least a $100 just in gas, I also drive my car past the hours that they are open. but hey I'm sure it's cool needlessly tying up your credit until you get refunded the dozens of times that you will be using it.

Still to cheap try http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...QrdZ1and buy it for $25, Captain Stingy

um, ok..... u can "borrow" that tool for free for up to ten days-in a-row if u wish... um... duhhhhh

who uses that scanner that many times? other than a technician @ a shop... i only used the scanner 3x the past year for my family's fleet of 13 cars... <shrugs>

"Um" was your stupid language; people with VW's use a scanner that much because the car can't seem to get it's emission straight even after repeated parts are changed. The point is to see if your car has any codes[most codes don't throw the light -these are called precodes] on a permanent basis is a good idea instead of tying up your credit for $80+ for an you could have purchased for about a third of the cost to own. Of your families "fleet" of 13 cars how many are OBD2? Besides isn't about time to clear all the cars off the grass in your front yard?He asked a question, I gave him the best answer,OBD2 is not just a newfound trend it is in every car since roughly 96. My point is that for $25 it is a hell of a tool to have- I use it on my Mazda 3,my father's Lexus LS,my Mother's Lexus ES,my sister's Lexus ES-it's called preventative maintenance . I wish the s13 had OBD2 to make it easy to figure out what is wrong with the car without testing and guessing what part went bad. <insert shrugs or some other gay comment here>

Guess you guys bought out Daewoo before they went under. Why would you guys have that many cars, is it a car collection or just a lesson of mediocrity? Oh thats right there is probably 13 people living in a single house, thats the classy way to save towards whatever Nascar dream vacation your family is undoubtedly been planning. Again "Um" is your language purveying to me what a retard thinks when he types and shrug is just plain gay.

Again UM is retarded and SHRUGS is just plain gay, having a "fleet" of cars is just plain trashy. You probably still live at home with your parents and are 34 with only a 89 240sx and a old motorcycle to show for it, congratulations to you. Your posts just show me your intelligence, and your getting divorced already. Thats called a loser trifecta, but hey good luck on your conquest for the latest Larry the Cable Guy Gear.

i don't have the cars lined up on the driveway; they come to me for their preventative maintenance druing family visits.

don't get mad when i just gave a few members some useful resources that scanner will not be used daily (geez, for your list of "reliable" cars, u need it that often)

I use the scanner every month to find a problem before it becomes an issue, if you are really to cheap to buy a scanner for $25 shipped then you have never had a newer car.Again your language just shows your lack of intelligence and imagination , using the word fleet to describe your families pitifull selection of cars is just plain trashy. The facts---you are 34 and live at home with your parents yet you live in jersey and still don't have enough money to buy new parts for your car, have a old bike worth what $500?

Now guys, just because I've been busy doesn't mean you guys don't have to play nice...

Oh btw, keep this kind of crap out of the tech sections. If you're trying to bring arguments about "oh yeah well *insert fail here*" then GTFO from the tech section please.

I understand you completly, ricebike started with an unfounded attitude and for some reason you felt the need to modify and delete my post even though I am not the one who swore in my posts. If you are going to use your power as an administrator, then apply it both ways equally, read the posts and see that I am not the big offender here.I was the only one to man up and apologize to the person starting the thread-then you take it out on me?!

I apologize for thread jacking you fresno240sx.I just can't help myself when it comes to a cheap guy like this, gives 240 owners a bad name. Anyways I hope you have fixed your problem without to much trouble.

Agreed. Cleaned up the thread a bit. Now

1. You fired first. Ricebike's been a respectable member for a while without a real history of flaming and so on as far as I can remember.2. Truth, I've seen quite a few 40 owners go through and be a bit less than honorable when it comes to doing purchases to pinch a penny a little harder. However, it does not give you the right to call someone names and so on. Thus, the edit of some of the meaner stuff you said. You know it too.

Thank you for editing his posts too, honorable of you As for firing first- he did with his offensive "um" remark and the dumb smiley behind the couch icon, you could feel the sarcasm. Again sorry for the posts I just could not help myself from going on the defensive. The penny pinching happens usually when you are younger- if you are still doing it when you are older a 240 is just not a good car to have if you dont have the money-the car makes me want to spend the money on all the aftermarket goodies and make her run at the top of her game. I have bought enough generic and cheap parts back in the day to learn that most parts will have to be replaced again. I love my 06 mazda 3 S GT-fully loaded, but it doesnt make me want to put anything more than a system into it-it just doesnt bring the emotions the 240 does.

Yes, there will be quite a few folks who have bought junk before and learned it costs quite a bit more to fix what the cheaper part "fixed" after the fact.

Then again, that kind of a return policy is there and although it ruins it for other stuff like anything with a restocking fee like a gps for example, but it's to be expected as well that there'd be folks who exploit that policy. Such is life.

Resources like articles that you didn't write but took credit for? This is a seatbelt installation article for the s13 hatch stolen from stinky180 at 240sxforums.com:

http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=215210

Here is the original article:

It's called plagiarism. At least have the courtesy to give the the writer credit.

Nope. That article was on 240sx.org LONG before that "other" forum even existed.

And I see a TON of ripoffs from 240sx.org and http://www.240sxTech.com...

Perhaps it's time to make note of it with their owner.

p.s. zerosum, if I had seen this thread back when it was active, you'd have gotten a vacation. NOT cool, and I'm not interested in your excuses and rationalizations. You're lucky that 180fan is nicer than I am.

That's pretty interesting considering the pictures used in the article were from the AUTHOR'S car.

Meh whatever, but if it were my article I would be pissed.

Exactly.

And they were posted on 240sx.org before that site even began.

Good looking out though - I respect that for sure.
