240 engine help

I just picked a 1992 240sx for 200 dollars, the only problem is that the motor is slightly knocking because he left the oil cap off but its not knocking real bad because I drove it home, A mechanic at a shop told me it would cost somewhere around 1000 dollars to fix. I was wondering if ya'll have any ideas to where I can fix this or places to where I can buy a rebuild kit at good price? I also heard it could just be the bearings in the crank and replacing them would stop the knock but i am not sure. Let me know what ya'll think.

eh if it's the bearings you'd also have to look at the condition of the crank. machine work can make the cost of this repair not all that cost effective. I have a feeling that 1k that mechanic is quoting you can balloon to a higher figure fairly quickly...
