I am transplanting the entire KA24E driveline from a 240sx to a old british car, a TR6. Odd, i know, but it will end up a really nice car. I have the entire rusty 240sx to play with and have removed all of the mechanicals, radiator to rear, end and the engine harness and ECU:

1. Is anything from the body wiring harness needed to run the engine, or do i just need to get power to the ecu/engine harness?

2. Will the rear sump oil pan from a truck KA work? What is the difference in the truck KA, just the cam and injection? The motor i got does not run, and the intake is suspicoulsly full of oil and water. maybe i should just buy a truck KA and swap the cams, intake, etc.

3. Is there a shorter transmisson that will bolt to the KA.

4. Who makes a header for this motor?

5. Does the ECU take any speed info from the transmisson sensors?

6. judging from the size of the motor mounts, this motor must vibrate alot huh?

I know i am sick.

Hi Brad. What you're talking about sounds like a really neat project. So I'll try and help you out

1. You should be able to separate the accessories (lights and extra body stuff) from the main harness and only power the motor equipment and ECU. My car has the opposite done, so I don't see why not.

2. I believe you need also the oil pickup from the KA truck in addition to the oil pan to make this work, but yes it can be/has been done.

3. The 5 speed trans is slightly shorter than the Automatic IIRC.

4. Everyone. But Hotshot seems to eb the best. A little pricier, but the qualiy makes up for it.

5. The ECU does in fact take a speed reading from the transmission for the spedometer, and for the gear sensor.

6. You do not want solid mounts if that's what you are thinking... This motor does have some obvious vibrations, especially at idle.

By some vibrations, he means "shakes like a *****". I can only imagine how it would rock the car around with solid mounts.

Hey thanks for the Info so far. I have no real intention of using solid mounts, as i have noticed that this motor does not have countershafts like other big fours. i am going to actually cut the entire motormout ears off of the 240 subframe and weld them in place in the triumph.

I have ordered a book with a wiring diagram in it, and am hoping to be able to meld the cars wiring to the harness. it should not be that difficult as i am not trying to do any warning lights or anything. as far as the speed sensor, i am going to convert that to a cable. i guess i will put a resistor in the place of it if the ECU needs that input to operate, as far as the 5th gear swtich, i will do the same to make it think it is in fourth all the time.

The transmission would be much better for me if the shifter were about 5 inches forward of its position. i guess i will be lowering the transmission a bit and building a rod acutated shifter. I was hopeing one of the other manual transmissions, ie 280 z or someting would work. from my Zcar days i remember them to be a bit shorter.

I will go to the junk yard to get the truck sump and pick up.

I looked at the obvious of putting in a v8 ford, like so many people do, that just does not end up that eloquent, and not much better than what was there, other than the power. i feel that with this motor, setup etc, i will end up with about 175 hp, and a car that is about 450 pounds lighter, much better F/R wieght balance, starts everytime, and goes like stink.

Keep us updated on this project Brad. Hopefully you'll get the chance to shoot a few pictures of the progress
