So i have a sohc ka. Everytime I start up the car it'll start and run for maybe a few seconds. Then the rpm's will drop down to 0 and the whole car will die out. The motor will start to shake as it goes down to 0. I can only keep the car running by reving the motor, but even then it'll try to die as I give it a steady foot of throttle. I checked all the plug wires for resistance and those were fine. Checked the spark plugs and cylinder #2 plug's electrode at the end of the plug burned off. I replaced those and it still doesn't run. It's misfiring right now and it's not going so great. I don't know if my timing could affect this and would do this or if there isn't sufficient enough of fuel pressure going into the cylinders. Maybe the distributor rotor is bad or maybe the fuel injectors? I'm trying to look into it but everytime I do something it doesn't get me anywhere. Anybody have any suggestions to what it might be?

could be a fuel system issue or your timing..we need more info to narrow it down some..are there any strange noises?..if so..from where?..did you change filters..fuel/air filters?...there are so many basics to look at first..cap and rotor...coil...more info needed.

Sounds like the IACV problem I had on my DOHC, but im not sure if the SOHCs have an IACV (I know nothing about them). If it has one check that out and get it cleaned or replaced depending on how it looks. On the dual cams the IACV is located to the rear of the intake mani between the top and bottom of the last runner if i remember correctly. Hope that helps you, keep us posted.

ya i figured it might have to do something with the fuel system or the iacv. Far as i know there isn't really any strange noises from the startup but it does sound like a vacuum leak right when its about to die. I havent changed the fuel filter or air filter since I bought the car. Had it for about a month and it ran fine up until about last weekend. I haven't gotten the change to look at the coils and check to see if theyre alright and not too sure if the cap and rotor are fine. Some more diagnostics I gotta do but hopefully this can be solved. Otherwise keep the feedback comin! I needa narrow this down to the solution. I'll most likely check those things out and get back to you guys on that

In the mean time search the website. I'm sure there are a bunch of other threads you can gather info from.

ya im not getting much progress with it i'm not too sure if i can take the injectors out and visually expect them. My friend said I shouldn't but I'm kinda stumped on this whole motor problem. I've been looking around and haven't really found much either =/

so me and my friends looked at the car today, checked the ignition system but got nothing out of it. We checked to see if the plug wires were in the wrong position and turned the distributor just to see if it would run and still nothing. We asked a buddy and he said it may be fuel related or we could adjust the cam timing to see if anything is off. Just to make this clear so ppl understand the situation. My car starts and seems like it runs fine. Idles at about 1200 rpm but then it'll drop down to 0 and the motor will shut off. The car will only stay running when I give it a good amount of gas. Otherwise it'll shut off and shake rapidly as it is dying. If ANYBODY has any thought as to what it may be I'd love to hear it =)..I've looked around too and I didnt find much on the forums =/
