Tuning the 240 for 18 lbs of boost, got most of the RPM range at 11.8 / 1 AFR. Timing retard only .2 per lb of boost. Anyway, I popped off the IC pipe at the throttle body. So as I was tightening the hose clamp back up, I moved the radiator hose up a tad for access. At which point the whole dam nipple at the radiator snaps off spraying me and my buddy down with steaming hot AntiFreezEEEEE. Woohooo....luckily I was wearing mechanic gloves so I only got blisters on the hand that was right next to the line. My buddy got it right in the face. But was far enough back that he only got a scare...luckily. I thought I blinded him, cause he was covering his eyes.So now I'm swapping the radiator.

So the score is

S14 --- 6Brian --- a big fat 0

Christ I'm tired of fixing this damn thing.

Point being, everyone has issues somtimes. So don't get to down on yourself when it happens to you. ANd don't forget your safety equipment...lol.

Wow, scary. Hot coolant and randomly arcing wires are always scary as crap when you're not expecting them.

On a side note, is this a built block? 18 psi with only .2 degree retard/pound sounds quite risky on the stock block..but im sure its a blast to drive

"You just can't win sometimes" I say to myself. I haven't touched my car in a week fearing I'm gonna beat the shiy out of it. Breathe in, breathe out...Glad no one got hurt.

I had a the same thing happen to my with my 1991 Mustang LX 5.0 I took a shot of antifreeze in the face, burns for quite a while even after about an hour. Had to go to the emergency room but no burn scars or blisters. I don't get down on myself anymore when something goes wrong when I'm working on my car it is more like a relief that it is over with and that I am okay.

at the end of the day, when the car's running like it's supposed to and you go months on end just changing the oil and spanking everone's *** you come across, you get the liberty of wearing that smug grin that says "I earned it."

now if I could get the part about leaving everyone's *** in my wake taken care of I'll be good but so far 4+ weeks and counting with zero issues.

I hate plastic radiators. As soon as I quite trying to go faster I am replacing mine!

well i can definitely sympathize with u wd as i took a nice shot of coolant about two months ago to the face and entire upper torso. of course i was an idiot and just opened up a friend's cap to check the level after he drove it around the block. i was completely soaked in it but luckily for me, it was only luke warm. nonetheless, im using three clamps on that one silicone fitting from TB to cold pipe. and for turtl, i think wd is running alcohol or water injection so i think thats y he can get away with such high boost and timing configuration.......................but im sure wd will chime in.

Well at the time I was doing the tuning, I was running the AF mix fairly rich, the leanest it got was 11.8/1 My target is 12.5-12.7 or so. Thats where the most power can be made so long as your temps are kept down. The reason I'm running only .2 or so per lb is that I normally wouldn't even worry about timing retard until 8 psi. But the BTM starts retard as soon as it see's boost. So I figured I'd have a few degree's to work with since I'm losing timing earlier then I want to.

I originally started with 1 degree per lb, until I got the AF's down to 11's accross the board on boost. Then I turned the knob down to .5 per lb and re-did the test, no knock, no sputter and alot more power. After I had the AF's steady at 11.5-11.8 I turned the knob back a touch further to see if I'd start to get any knock or feel any detonation. I don't recommend this unless you've already blown up a few motors and know exactly what your looking for. Which I've done...more times then I'd like to remember.

Anyway, once I get her running, I'll save the daily driver map as setting 1, then tune her for alcohol on setting 2. With the alky, I should easily be able to run no retard and the same amount of boost.

Actually, I was thinking about a dual injection setup. a fine one stage water injection nozzle, starting spray at 8 psi. This is simply to cool the intake temps and EGT's down for timing. I measured the injection of water on my Skyline and with just a fine mist I was dropping 200-230 degree's in my EGT's. Then I add the variable alky injection across the board on boost for octane and fuel enrichment, allowing me to run more boost with no timing issues.

Baring in mind I'm not looking to excede 390 ft lbs of torque. I figure I'll hover at the breaking point till I get some new rods and pistons.
