I own a 91 240sx and recently got a new radiator and thermostat put in. But i find my car overheating as i'm driving around. I think i might have air trapped in the system and i'm not sure how to bleed the system? If you think it could be something else fell free to advise. Thanks

are you losing coolant? it could be your water pump.

to bleed the cooling system look around where you intake manifold meets thevalve cover ( its kinda covered by some wires) to the right of the coolant sensor/sendor ( the sendor could also be your problem) and turn the car on and remove that bolt ( its a number ten and you need a socket wrench) until coolant flows out. sometimes it will flow better if you open the radiator cap.

if your sendor was mesed up then it would send your gauge unaccurate readings, thats also really easy to do (replace).

what else, um if that doesnt help i suggest talking a thermometer (mechanical) and placing it in your radiator cap and let your car run until it says its overheating, then turn it off and read the temp. it should not be over 200 farenhiet, or not over 95 degrees celsuis.

you also might want to check your compresion and if its low your have a blown headgasket and psoobly a warped head ( dont feel bad, thats what happens when you blow your headgasket)

look on your oil dipstick for bubbles and thinnew watery loking oil.

let me know what happens and how the thermomter reading goes.

good luck

check and make sure that your thermostat is not put in upside down because if it is your cooling system will have no flow.

It is about the worst system to bleed. Just open the bleeder screw and let the thing run for about 20 minutes. Took 3 times for mine to bleed all the way out. And throw in some water wetter while your there.

I had the same problem couple of years ago when i changed out my water pump and radiator. All i did was after i ran the car and it started to over heat. I parked the car to the side took a really big and thick towel and opened up the radiator cap.. Just to let the pressure out. Do not open it all the way. This seemed to take care of the problem.

I havent had that problem ever again ever since
