I'm from NC and just moving to MI and was wondering how 240's are as winter cars for those of you that use theirs as a daily driver in the cold areas. Nothing snow tires can't fix?

Detailed exp and things to note are appreciated.

The car in my signature will not be the daily by the way...

Drove mine '90 all last winter here in MI. A full set of snow tires all around and I had absolutely no issues all winter. Even when there was 12" of snow on the road I was able to get around easily. 240sx + snow tires = ATV. ^^

P.S. Where are you moving to in MI?

Thank you very much for the help! I got a job with Nissan's Tech Center, so I am shopping around for houses in that area now.

Drove mine through all kinds of snow last winter with the auto - ka. Going to be a bit different now, but a decent set of tires are the way to go as was previously stated

I live in Northern Indiana about a mile away from the michigan state line. I drove my 240 2 years ago in the winter it wasn't too bad. I had some brand new all seasons in the back and some tires with decent tread in the front. I only had a problem when we got dumped with 8 inches and I didn't have to work that day due to the snow. In reality we only get dumped on a few days out of the snow season, i would think you would have to worrk about the ice and your car not starting more than accually drving in snow. FF does own RWD in the snow and thats fine with me.

With snow tires the 240 is nearly unstoppable, esp. with the stock rally car ride height Contrary to popular belief w/ the proper tires rwd and awd do better than fwd's

Good deal... thanks for the help everyone! I have a 01 Pathfinder now... but the fact that I really don't need a truck for anything anymore (not moving so much) I'd rather just have a car if it would work... sounds like it does.

i gotta agree with him. my auto in the snow is no fun cuz if you start to lose it you cant just get on the clutch. still very easy to drive

the manuel is much more satisfying to drive, but i obviously am the kinda guy who busts out his serious snow drifting skills...

both cars open diff, manuel is completely stripped. they both do better than my 2400 lbs bmw, but now that has an lsd so we'll see this year...

ff is a joke in snow, and 240sx handling is so predictable, espeically with all that understeer, but now even the wusses can correct with a little throttle or a clutch kick...

Well, that's true to a certain extent, but a fwd car isn't going to spin out near as easy as a rwd car.

Yup, but once you lose control with ff, there's no saving it.

Yes. I'm assuming in TX you don't get much snow.. if at all.

That's why i said when the 240 is equipped w/ snow tires. You will not spin out with snow tires, if you do its because your'e driving like a idiot or your'e driving on a sheet of ice (and no drivetrain wins in that situation anyway). I drove my friends 88' Z31 with Michelin X-Ice snow tires, you couldn't get that car to spin/lose traction in light to moderate snow unless you tried.. really hard. FWD has the inherent flaw that the wheels that steer are also the wheels that give the vehicle traction. Their predisposition towards understeer are exaggerated in the snow and rain. That's not to say fwd sucks in the snow, obviously they have a weight/traction advantage, but once things get hairy its a lot harder to get out of it. They definitely would benefit w/ snow tires like any 2WD would.

fwd loses all of its advantages the moment the car starts to move.....just get a fat chick to sit on your trunk (care, not too fat, you don;t want dents) and you should be fine

I can get at least 2 S13's from the Ionia area, maybe 3, and at least one Z31 turbo.
