damn dude, thats really bad. After going 280 miles are you sure your putting in 20 gallons at the pump? I mean, if you are only getting 14 mpg, and rarely touching 3000 rpms seems to me you got some kinda problem there. I'm doing a hellofa lot better than that and I'm hauling batouttahell butt all over town.generee wrote:and yes much agreed wild willy, but i always keep it around 2000 rpm, very rarely hit 3000, and my mileage equates to 14-15 mpg. hopefully it's a break in thing, but thanks for the advice.
Exactly. I get the same numbers with my 2.5. When the traffic is obscenely bad (like this past christmas rush), I get something around 18mpg. Thats Hawaii roads for ya...pot holes and everything.SHIFT_2.5S wrote:This has got to be the thousandth thread on MPG in the coupe.
I get an average of 21.5mpg overall, but that's because I'm stuck in traffic 95% of the time. On a highway when going above 70mph, I get 30+ miles to the gallon.

That mileage was with my car fully loaded. I would say over 1,000 lbs of passenger weight. I also hadn't reset the mileage before I set out on my trip so it was taking my prior mileage into consideration.GreyZone wrote:make that 1001 This is my first post on MPG seeing as how I missed the other 1,000.
And the post yesterday from BlackNWhite was "I averaged about 23.7 mpg and 70.8 mph," so that was over 70.
And, you yourself stated (is that redundant?) in the same thread "I get around 21.5 in the city" and you have the 2.5 also.
So, I figure I'm getting 18 or so hauling a$$ in the city in my 3.5, not bad. And my mileage was actually higher than BlackNWhite's and I was going faster, seems weird to me (and that's with weights in my trunk, hahahaha).
All said it done, it makes me even happier with my 3.5

That's really bad!! Even new, I got about the same mpg as I do now. Maybe you have some other issue going on. I know the newer 3.5 are supposed to be even more fuel efficient. But, Let me tell you..I understand your frustration. We have an 04 Honda Oddy that gets between 9 and 11 mpg all of the time..I have had it in the shop 4 times to address the issue with no luck. Everything always checks out OKgeneree wrote:and yes much agreed wild willy, but i always keep it around 2000 rpm, very rarely hit 3000, and my mileage equates to 14-15 mpg. hopefully it's a break in thing, but thanks for the advice.
I have found that the computer is very accurate if you hop on the highway and do not deviate from it. However, if you mix city driving in the equation the computer tends to be a couple mpg higher than it actually is. Usually 2mpg or so High.generic808 wrote:Wow, some of you guys are getting horrible gas mileage. Do you guys go by what the computer says? And if so, do you reset it at each fill up?
Also remember that tire pressure has a lot to do with gas mileage. Make sure your tires are inflated to the recommended. I run mine at 35psi, 3psi up from the recommended. This last fill up I averaged almost 24mpg, according to my computer and my own calculations. And that's on a 3.5!
I agree, but maybe the car knows that you are getting 0 MPG because you are going 0 MPH?? What I'm saying is that maybe the computer only calculates MPG when MPH are recorded?? If this were the case there would always be some fuel loss that is not calculated.Cali 2 Balti G wrote: Also what about when you are stopped and the engine is running say at a red light or drive thru- you are getting 0 miles to the gallon at this point. I believe not all computers may factor this in.
