Hey everyone so my question is which tire size for the xxr 521 18x8.5 wheels. I wanted more wheel than tire so i was leaning towards 235/40/18 but than i found out it will mess up everything with the miles and speedometer so the tire size that wouldnt cause that is 235/45/18 i even called tirerack.com and they said the recommended tire size is 235/45/18. I want to do 235/40/18 could i do it and say w.e is it really gunna effect it bad can i get away with it or should i do the 235/45/18. If anybody has thoughts and opinion on what i should do i would apperciate the help nicoclub thanks !

I had the same problem when I was finding tires for my OEM wheels. The tires I wanted didn't come in the stock size so I had to figure out what other sizes would work.

This will calculate basically everything you'll need to know about how the different sizes will affect your car.

I ran 45 sidewall on my stock 17's to drop my car more and have a sportier looking tire. yeah my speedo was off a few mph and my mileage is probably off as well, but I don't really care.

Okay so i did my stock tires and the 2 diffrent types of tires i see the 235/40/18 would effect the speed my a little and the revs per mile its not that bad i think i could just do the 235/40/18 and say w.e lol but the only reason why im debating on getting 235/45/18 is for alil more wheel protection because new jersey has the worst road especially my area i live :tisk:

I'm from around Philly so I know how you feel. I just messed around with the available tire sizes until I found a size that fit or was at least close to it. I have 18x7.5 with 225/45/18 but don't think that'll help much.

It's my personal opinion because I don't want my odometer to throw up any addition miles that I didn't drive on the car that I recommend sticking with the OEM O.D. which 235/45-18's will give you. There is more to consider; the decrease in your wheel/tire O.D. the wheel gap will increase. You may be dropped and so do I; the decrease in overall wheel/tire O.D. may knoll the looks the drop provided, and me personally on my car I'd rather see more sidewall/less wheel gap than less sidewall/more wheel gap. You say the roads in NJ are bad; less side wall will kill you in that. Be prepared for when you go from a 215/55-17 to a 235/40-18 that you will be experiencing car seat enema's daily; there isn't anything magical about it, and your car seat will not kiss you when it's done. A 235/45-18 will still be harsh, but the 235/40-18 will be harsher. I dropped my car on stock wheels; I didn't feel a difference in ride quality, but when I went from 17's to 18's due to the lower sidewall the ride went to crap. The loss of 5mm in the sidewall will make it even worse.

you do make a good point going with the 45 it seems theres more cons than pros with the 40 and more pros than cons with the 45 lol and im running eibach springs so with the 45 it will look better covering up more wheel gap which i want so i think im gunna go with the 45, 45 is the better choice when you do pros and cons and HELL YEAH NEW JERSEY ROADS ARE TERRIBLE! the only nicely paved smooth roads in jersey is down south and southwest and the Garden State Parkway lol the turnpike is bad too untill you get down south. my area i live is mostly industrial factories and fast pace type living im 10 mins from NYC, traffic is terrible certain times of the day saturdays you cant even go anywhere its so congested and my eyes are always on the road bc theres a pot holes and bumps and stuff everywhere its sucks w.e tho thanks for our advice and opinion and help !

I feel ya, this is what im basing my decision on cause i know with the roads that i have driven on i would destroy my rims and the ride is already bad enough on eibachs. I thought the roads around philly were the absolute worst, till i drove on Haddonfield road in NJ. Thought my car was going to fall apart, couldn't get off that road fast enough.
