Whew, it's got "something fishy" written all over it.

Email the seller and ask:
  • Will the "link" be for new or refurb product?
  • About how much were the shipping costs for his?
  • How long did the shipping take for his?
  • Is it being shipped from outside of the US?
  • If so, what kind of customs fees should you expect?
  • If it's an outside the US company and there are issues, who would "resolve" them?
I've never bought something like this, but why wouldn't he just buy 10 of them for $150 and sell them for $500?? I have been looking into buying a system that's only available in Japan and the customs charges can be hefty, and there's not returns for any reason :(.

My guess is this is "shady" at best, and scam is more likely.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

I would't buy it off ebay. Just like buying engines, wheels & tires, or any electronic.... you need a physical location to settle disputes.... whether it be a dispute about price, workmanship & materials, warranty, install, etc. Don't do it. If it's a scam or you get a crap item, where do you take it, and who do you talk to? Ship it off to who knows where and wait who knows how long? no thanks. my $.02 I smell a scam!

It's most definitly a scam... they want you to give them $10 for a web address that may or may not really have the item promised, or you have to do something to get it like go test drive something. Been there, done that...

I don't know if it is a scam or not. I have been seeing those on ebay for a long time now. I am not saying to go and buy it. Look at the sellers feedback and try to talk to someone who has purchased.

My firsthand experience is this: $400 off retail price, from a guy you know and have done business with for years, is an acceptable move. This would be the circumstance under which I recently got my in dash unit.

$2000 off a unit, from an unknown source, who is to provide you with a link to an unknown site, at an unknown time AFTER you pay him your money... for a unit that cannot be had <legally> for that price anywhere, not even on the wholesale market...

The buyer is taking all the risks, for a deal seems too good to be true. Chances are, the deal IS too good to be true. Why risk it? Any discount audio shop could retail that item at $1500, sell 'em like friggen hotcakes, and STILL make money on each deal. Why would anybody sell for so much less? They wouldn't. I still smell a scam.

If you click on the "item" links for the feedback from "buyer", some of the previous buyers got it and stated
  • great seller
  • great!
  • good ebayer
  • OK
  • Good ebay member
  • good dealer will buy from again
  • fast shippment A++++
  • great ebayer
  • very quick response great ebayer
I'd still send him an email with my questions and see how/if he answers/responds.

90% discounts are great, just they all seem to disappear when I wake up :D

Never hurts to spend a little time researching, versus some $$ leanring the hard way.

Go buy a lotto ticket. That way you get to mentally masterbate to millions, and it only costs you a buck. **** it, buy five and really fool yourself into believing that your mansion, Ferrari and fine female, and Alpine :pimp headunit are ... right around the corner.

i used to work for audio express and we sold a similar unit to that for around 2,000 not positive i install things don't sell them. anway employees could get a stocked products for dealer cost +10% it was still alil over 600 for that head unit so there's is no way in hell you could get a new one for 150
