For optimal fitment, the tread width on the tire should be within 1/2" of rim width. If you go to an excessively wide wheel then the tires can debead in a hard corner. Saw a lowered mini truck debead all 4 trying to drift a left turn on a city street. Slid into the curb and damaged the suspention. You'll need more air pressure to deter this and that will hurt grip.
Personaly I wouldn't go any wider than an 8". Best advice, go to the tire manufacturers website and look up what they recommend. Or go to tire rack and look up that size and rim recommendation. I'm running a 225/50/16 Kumo spt on stock wheels. This is maximum tire for thoes wheels
